Should it take this long? What's a "hangcheck"?

Featured Replies

Just purchased unRAID plus and have a couple questions/issues.

I'm in the process of building my first Array with 4 drives (all SATA) - 400GB Parity and three 160GB for the array. Here's my question....it's taking forever. Should that be? The estimated finish still says 2361 minutes....39 hours?! Really? It's already been running for 8-10 hours. It takes 4-5 days to build an array?

Not sure if it's related but the unRAID box keeps displaying "Hangcheck: Hangcheck value past margin!". Is this why it's taking so long? What is a hangcheck?

FYI- I built a brand new server for this purpose, so all the components are new. 1GB RAM, 2.66Ghz CPU, SATA drives, etc.

Please help.

It should take about 1-2 hours, so something is wrong.

Something in the BIOS is probably set incorrectly.  You'll need to attach your logfile so folks can help you figure it out.

Cheers,

Bill

Here's another log that I just captured with the array trying to build.

See attached.

The log is showing that your SATA hard drives are being seen as IDE drives.  This is due to a bios setting and explains your slow speed.  What motherboard are you using?

Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2

I took a look in the BIOS but I didn't see anything obvious as to how and "force" SATA

Go to the 'Integrated Peripherals' bios page.  Set the 'On-Chip SATA Mode' to 'Enhanced'.
