August 9, 201015 yr I started playing with sickbeard and that got me thinking. How do the arrays show up to applications running native on the system? with the normal raid system the array would show up as a dev/md0 or something similar so apps running natively on the system can move files around normally and they end up where they should be. If the array shows up as a unified array over the network, but on the system it shows up as ten seperate mounted file systems that could become a major pain for someone running sickbeard + sabnzbd wanting downloaded stuff to be moved to the right directories automatically... August 9, 201015 yr They show up as both. It's /mnt/disk#/ for individual drives, and it's /mnt/user/ for the composite of all drives. It's up to you as to which you want to use.
August 9, 201015 yr It is It's up to you as to which you want to use. up to you which to make visible on the LAN. You can make the disk shares hidden, so you can still access them if you type their specific path. That lets you decide where to put new files if you want that ability. Or, you can use the "user-shares" and let the allocation rules you put into place make the choice for you. I have my "disk" shares hidden so my media players only see the user-shares named after "Movies", "Mp3" and "Pictures"
