dxmaster
I want to dabble in virtualization with my unraid tower. I've swapped hardware once before when my old towers motherboard died so I just swapped it all into a really old dell xps tower that I had laying around. My question is it shouldn't be a problem if i just built a new tower with a processor and motherboard that supports virtualization and just move the usb/drives to the new computer and boot off of it, right? Any suggestions on a cheap-ish setup that can enable me to dabble in virtualization? Right now I have an old corsair 800D full tower case laying around so I think I'll just need a new mobo/cpu/ram to get me up and running, yeah? Link to comment
tdallen
It shouldn't be a problem. If you just want to dabble, then a motherboard and CPU with VT-x support is fine - and don't skimp on the RAM. If you want to use hardware pass-though then VT-d support is required for both, and the newer the hardware usually the better. You might want to clone a setup someone else is successfully using.
