September 6, 201015 yr Author Thanks! Things seem to be going smoothly at this point, still in the process of copying files over though. I do have one horribly noobish question: I'm using the Icy Docks I mentioned in the first post which are "hot-swappable." Does "hot swap" mean that I can remove and install drives while the system is on? Or do I have to power down the system first before adding/removing drives? Thanks in advance.

The Icy Docks may be Hot Swappable, but unRaid is not. You will need to power down & then add or remove drives.
September 17, 201015 yr I do not know if that Adaptec card is supported. The SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 card is supported and widely used by many users. It's a better value as it provides 8 SATA ports instead of 4. The other SuperMicro card is for server-based motherboards which offer PCI-X. Do not confuse PCI-X with PCI-Express. The 1430SA he linked was the original card Tom used in unRAID server builds. When the 1430SA supply dried up and was no longer readily available, he switched to the Supermicro that is popular today. It is supported.
