HDD isn't recognized

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a WD 750gb drive that I used to use as a cache drive on my unraid server.  I want to use this drive as storage for my PC instead.  However, when I attach this drive to my PC, it doesn't even show up in the bios.  But when I plug this drive back into my unraid server, it works just fine.  To test if it was the sata port/cable, I tried another drive on my PC with the same sata port/cable, and it was fine.  So does anybody know what could be causing this? Thanks

I've run into this kind of situation before as well, and as best as I can tell unRAID is just more tolerant of dodgy drives than Windows.  I've had drives that would crash Windows, not allow it to boot, etc. and they all worked right away in unRAID, and continued working for months or years.  Definitely odd that it doesn't even show up in BIOS - I haven't run into that specific issue before.  Perhaps the drive is just bad.  Maybe run a SMART check on it from the unRAID server?
