Unraid Without Parity Drive

Featured Replies

I am looking to build a Storage Solution for my data that is scattered all over external HDD. There are about 14 Drives containing 25TB of data.

1) I am looking at the Dell Rack Server R230, is Unraid compatible with the hardware?

2) Can I use Unraid without the Parity Drive? Since the R230 is a 4bay unit, I don't want to waste a Drive for parity, since I don't need it. I have the backup of all the data in my external drives.

3) I would be purchasing additional R230 Units for future expansions, Do I have to buy a separate license of unraid for each additional R230 unit?

Further, I would like to know, Do I have to clean a New HDD every time I add to the array, taking into account that I won't be using a Parity Drive. I am planning to add additional 6TB HDD to the array in future as and when required.

Possibly but the SAS RAID controller it uses isn't recommended

Yes

Unless one unit can use the other unit's disks you'll need one license for each

Depends on what you mean by clean, it needs to be formatted by unRAID, so any data there will be deleted.
