Storage drives unmountable: no filesystem (SOLVED)

Featured Replies

I have a server with 3 drives attached, and a windows 10 VM I use as my daily pc. I didn’t change any settings or hardware, but all my shares are gone and I can’t start the vm. My cache drive I use for the vm seems to still be full. My two storage drives apparently don’t have an intact filesystem.

The server is running normal, except for the missing data and that it can’t be restarted. It stops the restart at the “press del and f2 to enter bios” screen.

I have a 4tb Wd red as the parity and a 2 tb wd red and 500gb Wd Blue m.2 ssd as storage. Tell me, if I need to post more hardware info.

All i have done to try and fix the problem is multiple restarts (which all failed) and a parity check.

Thanks in advance for possible help

Your having problems with the flash drive, try a different port, preferably USB 2.0, not 3.0, if still issues it might be a failing flash drive.

Ok I’ll try that, thanks!

So I don’t have any usb 2.0, my only free ports were 3.1. I plugged the drive in, and it didn’t change anything. I do have the same USB stick again, can I transfer the data from the first to the second?

  • Community Expert

You can transfer the key to a new flash drive but if the problem is the port it won't help, USB 3.0 ports are a known problem for some users, you can try with a trial key, also at least use an USB 2.0 flash drive

Oh that doesn’t sound good, i only have a 4gb 2.0 Drive

  • Community Expert

4GB is more than enough.

So i just install unraid normally on the usb Drive?

  • Community Expert

Yes, then either use a trial key to see if it works, but you'll need to reconfigure the server and re-assign the disks, or ask for a key transfer and you can use your existing config.

Ok, so i plugged the first usb Drive in another pc and it doesnt get recognised. I just ordered a Sandisk cruzer, as recommended on the unraid website. I’ll try to get the key transfer, because I don’t really trust my very old USB stick, I will reply when I get my new stick.

Thanks a lot for the help, I hope I get to save all my pictures... I will backup everything in future

New USB-Stick is configured, and all the data is back. Thanks a lot!

How does the thread get placed as solved?
