August 28, 201015 yr You should have done some research before purchasing the card. If you did, you would know unRAID does not support this card. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7540.msg72961#msg72961 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6113.msg58780#msg58780
August 29, 201015 yr Author wow. thanks for the quick reply. yeah i should have. i can always return them. what card do you suggest i use. i need at least 8 ports for my setup.
August 29, 201015 yr If you have a 4x PCI-Express slot available, the sure fire card to use as it's widely used by the community is the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. It provides 2 mini-sas 8087 ports which each support 4 drives, for 8 drives total. It can be purchased for around $100-$110. If you're using normal SATA drives then you also need to use a mini sas 8087 to sata FORWARD breakout cable for each port: CBL SFF8087OCF.
August 29, 201015 yr Author i dont have pci xpress x4 port i do have a x16 i dont know if i would be able to use it. supposedly it works with cards with fewer lanes but ive never tested it. and if it does will this card work right out of the box with unraid or do i have to do some tweaking? if not i could go with two cards on pci x1 any suggestions?
August 29, 201015 yr The card is compatible with 8x and 16x PCI Express slots. Some have been successful in using the card in 8x and 16x PCI Express slots. It really depends more on your motherboard, if it allows for any non-video cards to work in that slot. If it properly follows the specs it should work. It is supported by the most recent version which as of August 28th, 2010 is unRAID 4.5.6. It should be a simple plug-in and use experience from the unRAID perspective.
