calvis
I spend 2 days copying one of my drives over to unraid and lots of stuff did not get copied over because of the file name length. What is the max file length and is there a utility that I can run to normalize it? Link to comment
Joe L.
I spend 2 days copying one of my drives over to unraid and lots of stuff did not get copied over because of the file name length. What is the max file length and is there a utility that I can run to normalize it? The max file name length on a reiserfs file system is 4032 bytes. I doubt it was your limiting factor. SAMBA might have a shorter limit. Windows might too. I think it limits the total path/file name to 255 characters. Joe L. Link to comment
NAS
Give us an example so we can see some context and perhaps suggest a solution Link to comment
chanders
I had the same exact problem when I was transfering my stuff to the array for the first time. The problem is the way SAMBA handles special characters like ":" and "Æ" as in the case of "Æon Flux" You will need to rename all files like "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)" to "Pirates of the Caribbean_ The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)" and then perform the transfer. Let us know how it goes.. Link to comment
speeding_ant
I've had issues with Slashes as well, eg \ or / for obvious reasons. Link to comment
