Unraid SSD Cache Variants and further Questions

Featured Replies

So i have a two NVME SSDs, one 512 GB Samsung 950 PRO, and a 250 GB Samsung 960 EVO. Both are connected to PCIExpress 3.0 with pci express Cards. They both are being identified correctly, and i can use them to create a SSD Cache.

I was expecting to see a 762 GB SSD Cache, but i get only a 381 GB SSD Cache.

I dont want any redundancy what so ever, i just want to get the full capacity. I also am runing a single 10TB hdd as an Array, so i have no parity drive. I will get a parity drive later. So backing up is not my concern right now.

Since These NVME SSD have writing capability in excess of 2 GB per second and reading capability about 1.5 GB per second, do i take Advantage of These Speeds, when using the as Cache ? Or would i be better off using normal SATA SSDs ?

Can i use These Drives as Independent drives without them being part of the Cache ? I could use the 250 GB SSD as Cache, and the 512 GB SSD as Independent drive, and specify Windows and gaming "Partitions" from the Independent drive, when creating the Windows10-VM. is this possible ?

Or is there a way to use both of the drives as a 762GB SSD Cache ? That would work as well, as i could specify Windows Partitions and Gaming partitions to use the Cache only, since there would be enough space.
