September 10, 201015 yr Hey all, I've been using Unraid 4.5 for a few months now and all was fine Up until last night. I go to stop my array (3 Drives) and the system just hangs for quite some time. Eventually i was not able to access the web panel so i shutdown from the console. This morning when i went to power everything up, i cannot detect the USB drive. I've tried it on the other 3 USB ports i have with no luck. Motherboard - MSI KT3 Ultrac 2-C Flash Drive - SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2GB help!
September 10, 201015 yr Did you happen to try the USB stick in another computer to see if it is the stick or issues with the motherboard?

Perhaps the BIOS is now pointing to a different drive for its boot device. Double check. Some BIOS "help" you by assigning the latest drive added as the boot device. Step 3. Purchase a new USB drive. Configure it with unRAID. Will it boot? If yes, and if you have a "Plus" or "Pro" license, send an e-mail to lime-tech as described in the wiki here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#If_my_flash_drive_dies_or_is_lost.2C_will_I_lose_my_license.3F Joe L.
September 10, 201015 yr Author Did you happen to try the USB stick in another computer to see if it is the stick or issues with the motherboard? yes i tried to simply read the USB from my main computer and i am able to open it and view the contents of the USB drive. ]Step 1. Yes i can 2. Bios is disabled to boot anything else but what they call "third party" which normally is my USB drive. 3. That was my next step, i was going to simply purchase a drive from Lime technology since i was getting ready to upgrade my license. Will i be able to retain my information on the hard drives?
September 10, 201015 yr Will i be able to retain my information on the hard drives? Yes. It is not affected. You will need to re-assign the drives on the "Devices" page and it will be important you assign the correct drive to the parity slot. If you do not remember which drive is parity, assign NO parity drive at all initially. If you can get all the other drives assigned and to not show as "unformatted" then the remaining drive is the parity drive. (The parity drive will not be able to be mounted since it does not have a file-system. Therefore, it will show as "unformatted" if you were to attempt to assign it to a data drive slot. DO NOT press "format" at any time. The drives should all come on-line without needing any re-formatting.) Joe L.
September 10, 201015 yr Author Sounds good, i have my drives labeled so i know exactly which one is the parity drive, thanks. And besides that, there is nothing else i need to do once i get my new flash drive? Ordering my new flash drive tonight

Ordering my new flash drive tonight If you had any special permissions of allocation rules defined for your user shares you'll need to set them, and your time-zone... and your "workgroup", and any users. (Basically, all the things you set up the first time) Joe L.
September 10, 201015 yr Im confused, if he can read his USB drive on another PC in windows, isnt that an indication that the USB drive is fine and the problem is elsewhere? Sorry to butt in, newbie learning here.

Sorry to butt in, newbie learning here. I missed that. Thanks... Yes, then it indicates his BIOS is likely trying to boot a different drive. Only he'll be able to tell by looking at the BIOS settings. Joe L.

Sorry to butt in, newbie learning here. my usb drive was working in my main PC but could not be seen as an option on my unraid tower. I tried to use that same USB drive yesterday to save a pdf file from a printer and i was unable to detect the usb drive, ordered one from lime-technology, will see what happens when i get it in. It could be the motherboard, its from 2002
