Duplicate folders in a shared folder

Featured Replies

Hi all. I looked around and couldn't find an answer on this.

I have a setup like this.

Server\Disk1\Movies

Server\Disk2\Movies

etc.

and Movies is shared.

Lets assume I have the folder

Server\Disk1\Movies\Movie1

If I copy a file to the share Server\Movie1, it may create a new folder and store it at:

Server\Disk2\Movies\Movie1

Is there a way to prevent this and insist it use the existing directory on Disk1 and not create a new one on Disk2?  If I look in Server\Movies\Movie1, it is correct, but it is actually pulling from 2 different folders.  I would prefer to only have the one folder with everything in it.

Thanks - Jeff

Look into the Split Level feature.

I don't use User Shares when writing across the network, so I haven't paid much attention to the Split Level. I think there is a setting which equates to only use the disk that has the directory created. Maybe it's a split level 0. However, that may only apply to the top level share directory itself.

Perhaps someone more familiar with Split Levels can help out?

Thanks BRiT for pointing me into the right direction. I think it looks like split level 1 is actually what I need from other threads, but I am not 100% certain, but I will give that a try.
