September 19, 201015 yr Just inserted a new 2TB WD EARS. unRAID started the "clearing" process which is compulsory. Only at 25% complete after 7 hours. Speed is about 7.5MB/s as stated using unmenu. Array is unavailable during this time... Just to find out if this speed is normal ?? I really doubt it. Also I've noticed that the 2TB hdd is registered as an IDE drive instead of SATA2. Not sure if this is the cause.

Array is unavailable during this time... Clearing is necessary once you have defined a parity drive. You can pre-clear and not have the extended down-time though. Just to find out if this speed is normal ?? I really doubt it.No about 50 to 100 MB/s is more normal. Also I've noticed that the 2TB hdd is registered as an IDE drive instead of SATA2. Not sure if this is the cause. You've set it to emulate a legacy IDE drive in your BIOS. You probably do not want that mode. It might speed things up, but the jumper on the drive make the most difference. Joe L.
September 20, 201015 yr Author Jumper? I thought it should be left as default unless PM2 is required to start drive in spindown mode? I've checked the WD documentation as well. Can kindly point me to some documentation on setting jumper correctly? Thanks.
