December 13, 20187 yr Hello all, I am trying to start fresh with my server (backed up my data to another device) and I am trying to start clean. I have precleared all drives (I wanted dual parity on this machine, I have 2 8TB drives and one was parity prior), wiped my USB drive, and created a new config, but whenever I start the array with the new assignments, The Shares show up and the parity check attempts to restore my data. Am I missing something here? I mean this is great knowing that data gets recovered in case of an emergency, but how can I start fresh? EDIT: Steps I took: 1. Formatted the usb with unraid on it. 2. downloaded community apps 3. downloaded pre-clear drives 4. pre-cleared all drives (2pass erase and clean) 5. created a new config 6. put 2 8TB drives under parity 7. put the rest of drives under the array 8. put SSDs in cache 9. started array 10. the server said it was rebuilding parity. Under shares it shows all the shares I had before the reload Thanks! Tayshun Edited December 13, 20187 yr by tayshun12 bad lingustics
December 13, 20187 yr Community Expert Nothing in your post makes any sense. Parity check doesn't restore any data. Even if you didn't clear parity there is no way parity could rebuild the data of any disk without the data from all the other disks. Since user shares are simply the top level folders on all disks, the most likely explanation is that some of your disks must still have data and they weren't cleared or formatted after all. Maybe you need to think about this a bit more, try to break it down, and tell us exactly what you did in steps, and what the result of each step was.
December 13, 20187 yr Community Expert Maybe if you just take a look in the webUI at the free space on each disk it will become apparent which disks weren't cleared or formatted.

I'm doing another pass on the preclear of the drives, I will report back with my findings. Thanks for the quick response! Tayshun

December 13, 20187 yr Community Expert Something still had data on it is the only possible explanation. After you set it up again if it is still happening post a diagnostic.
December 13, 20187 yr Community Expert No point in wasting all the time and wear and tear on additional preclears. All you need to do is assign your disks, figure out which ones have data, and make Unraid format them.

Thanks again for the help! Tayshun

I must have missed it when preclearing all the other drives... Thank you for your help kind stranger!
