Is there any reason why a 32Gb field transfer between 2 macs (GigE, AFP) would get a max throughput of 20 Mb/s and a smaller 3Gb file 50 Mb/s plus?

 

I've tried without and without Jumbo frames and no difference. I also noticed that I don't really get solid sustained transfer rates, very up and down.

 

All devices are plugged in to a gigabit switch. Cat 6 cables.

 

I only ask because I was debating whether to mess about and install AFP on to my unRaid box. I have a large amount of data to move on to it and was trying to find ways I could get it done quicker. I get about 20 Mb/s on to the 7200 rpm cache drive via Samba.
