ok so I installed to my flash drive, I ran 2 memtest cycles, i booted to terminal i typed root,  ifconfig displays information, but no ip address  and  //tower http://tower/'>http://tower/ http://tower //tower/  all do nothing what gives

here is my syslog file

http://flomaster.pastebin.com/fwCqM5sB

I had my 2 2tb green drives with jumpers on pins 7/8 hooked up I wanted to run the preclear script on them so I can get my array up and running. iguess the week of research and reading guide after guide was worthless because I have yet to come across my same problem.

thanks for reading

Your DHCP doesn't response, Does your broadband router have restriction only assign IP to known MAC address?

Problem is on your DHCP server NOT in unRAID

EDiT: my HTPC is now showing up in my dhcp list and I have switched out my cable going to the router. on the back of the mobo I have an orange light indicating its connected to the router.

its connected to my routers yes,

funny thing is my htpc running linux does not show up in the DHCP list only my droid phone and win 7 laptop, however I have access to my htpc over the network and via DynDns.

-=Jason=-

Edit; me thinks i need to configure my networking manually how can i do that. spent the last 45 mins searching but had no luck :(

  • Author

well I pulled my flash drive and put it in my win 7 laptop and edited my network config file like so

# Generated settings:
USE_DHCP=no
IPADDR=192.168.2.10
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.2.1
DNS_SERVER1=192.168.2.1
DNS_SERVER2=

I can ping the unRaid sever from my win7 laptop and HTPC and get zero packet loss but I still can't access the web gui

GK20, my ipconfig /all looks good sorry im at work I can't post it, but my node type is Broadcast. I wonder if my mobo's onboard network card is problematic, but how would I be able to ping it if it weren't working?

-=Jason=-

When you say you can't access the webgui, are you trying http://192.168.2.10  or just http://tower ?  If the former works but the latter doesn't, then its a DNS issue.  If the former doesn't work either, can you telnet successfully to 192.168.2.10 ?

  • Author

Jazzy, I'll try to telnet when I get home as I am at work for the next 8 hours.  *runs to Google to look up telnet*  oh I use PuTTY to make all my changes on my headless HTPC running  Xbmc-Live  so I can test that out and see if I can connect to it when I get home

I have tried the following from Google Chrome Browser

//tower

//tower/

http://tower

http://tower/

http://192.168.2.10

192.168.2.10

when just typing //tower it tells me it can't find the file, but when typing http:// it tells me the webpage in looking for can't be found.

After you switch from DHCP to static IP, had you reboot your unRAID? if not, reboot it and post a new syslog.

there are lots of entities involved, we need to id each one of them. after reboot unRAID.

At your window 7 machine.

(a) Do nslookup for Tower with your gateway as default DNS server, if this command return 192.168.2.10 then gateway knows about Tower.

(b) Do "ping 192.168.2.10", if this command sucess, then

    (1) Ethernet on your unRAID has no problem

    (2) all switches has been populated with information about how to forward packet to unRAID

© try "http://192.168.2.10", if this command doesn't work, then probably there is no one in unRAID listening on port 80.

(d) If © is a success, try "http://tower", if this command doesn't work, then you need to look into netbios issue in your Windows machine.

Cool, GK20 I'll report back later tonight my findings......

Since the HTPC can successfully ping the unraid server, can it also access the webgui via http://192.168.2.10 ?

Try temporarily turning off Windows firewall and any other firewall programs you may have installed on the Win7 box.  The built in firewall (that is enabled by default) will drop pings, although that doesn't explain why you can't ping the unraid box from it - but its a place to start.  If that helps, make sure your local network is configured as a "Home" network in Windows 7, so that the firewall is disabled on it.

Jazzy, the HTPC is running headless and has no web browser so I can't check. I don't have any other computer here at the house to check with either :(

In your Win 7 machine

(a) Do nslookup with your gateway as default server in DOS window and post result back

(b) Do "route print" in a DOS window and post result back.

Meanwhile, draw a diagram about the layout of your home network.

You don't have specific route for 192.168.2.5 & 192.168.2.10, which meant all packets going out to these two IP from

this node will use default route. but you mention about you can ping 192.168.2.5 from this node but 192.168.2.10.

So this looks to me the problem is your Belkin

Next, telnet to your HTPC as root and at shell prompt type "route", post the result of this command back here.

After this checking, reboot your Belkin router if possible, then ping 192.168.2.10 again from this Win7 machine.

I've no idea how/ what i did,but its working now (with a wired connection) if I type my ip address in 192.168.2.10  //tower doesn't work

and

nslookup reports this

ssh into my HTPC and typing route =

xbmc@XBMCLive:~$ route

If you meant http://192.168.2.10 is working but http://tower isn't, this nslookup result already told you, your gateway, the Belkin, doesn't know how to translate "tower" to 192.168.2.10. You can do the same nslookup at your HTPC to double check. broadband router should have a list of machine currently it knows about.

By using wired connection, the broadcast ARP should have been broadcast to all devices connected to same switch.

It is working before or after you reboot your Belkin?

in my belkins dhcp list it isn't showing any of my 3 connected computers or my direcTv box.

I have dhcp turned in the router

there was an IGMP setting that was on and i turned it off.  rebooted win 7 kept forgetting my static IP address , I left my "home group"  my network samba shares I had setup on htpc went missing,  now all of a sudden everything is working again.

ahh Jesus.  http://tower  just now worked for me wtf....  //tower  is now working as well.  this is crazy shit right here.
