October 10, 201015 yr I have been happily using unRAID for the the past nine months. Recently, I upgraded my parity to a WD 2TB EARS drive, and added the former parity (1.5TB EARS) as a new data drive. Everything went smoothly (the new 3 platter 2TB drive is surprisingly fast). Then I noticed that before I had a chance to add a new folder to the new data drive, one had already been created for my "Recorded TV" share (I have configured Automove on my HTPC to move recordings to the server). Is it normal for unRAID to automatically add a folder of a particular share? There is still quite a bit of unused space for that share on other drives.
October 10, 201015 yr I do not think that was unRAID's doing. I suspect it was your HTPC or other PC Client's doings.
October 10, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the suggestion. I did a bit more reading in the FAQ, and I think that this is simply a function of the split level that I have set - 1. Reading the following helped: Split level 1 "means the first level share directory can be split across the drives without restriction" The "Recorded TV" share is the only one where data is automatically deposited into the share folder. All other data is copied manually into disk folders. As space is needed, new "Recorded TV" folders are being created on new disks where space is available.
