Preclear of new Seagate IronWolf fails

Featured Replies

Hi there, my system was running out of disk space so bough a new Seagate IronWolf 4TB NAS drive. I tried to preclear it in Unassigned Devices which failed and the disk got removed from Unassigned Devices (it  was not visible until I restarted Unraid). I tried again changing cables & ports but the same issue.

This is the error I get

--> FAIL: Result: Erasing the disk failed.

ls: cannot access '/sys/block/sdm': No such file or directory

I have attached the logs.

Would like some expert opinion before I return the disk that it is really an issue the disk itself.

Appreciate all the help.
regards, Manoj

Disk dropped offline, it's connected to a port multiplier on a Marvell controller, either one of those are not recommended, both together are especially not.

I use a NORCO SS-500 5-Bay SATA / SAS Hot Swap Rack Module to fit 5 HDDs in a 3 disk slots. Do you think that would be the problem? I have other 3 disks in the same rack working fine. i switched the HDDs withing the rack but it didn't help.

That's not a problem, port multiplier (likely integrated on the controller you're using) can be.

Connect the disk to one of the onboard SATA ports and try again.
