July 19, 200718 yr so i built my server last night, got everything setup, and its working good i mounted some shares on OS X and was transferring some files over.. re-scaned the user shares to make sure it was showing up, and all the shares mounted on my OS X laptop disconnected. when the user shares are being rescanned, is this because samba is being stopped & started? this is a bit annoying. it wouldnt be so bad in windows as the shares are always there regardless of if the shares are available or not, but in OS X this sucks
July 19, 200718 yr Author is anyone aware of how to avoid or get around this? doesn't really work to well when my media center box is using osx, re-scanning the user share will cause the tv show/movie/whatever to stop playing
July 20, 200718 yr that would happen (show stop) regardless of the OS your media center is running. Since Samba is brought down and restarted, picking up the new shares, you loose the connection. However, there is hope! From what I've read here, when writable user shares are done and working, the "re-scan" part will not be necessary, it will be dynamic. This should solve the issue you are seeing (we all are seeing).
