October 22, 201015 yr A while ago I posted this on the "Software" Forum, when I thought that this was a software problem. Now, i'm pretty convinced that it's a hardware issue, so I hope it's okay if I post here as well. My first post was: "Hi everyone, Firstly thanks to all who contribute to this forum - i'm a complete luddite when it comes to UNRAID and Linux in general, so the advice on here has been truly invaluable. My Problem: I built my unraid a couple of weeks ago using the guidence on both the Wiki and Forums. Everything has been working fine, and i've been adding more drives as I empty their contents into my shares. I hit a brick wall today when I added two Samsung Ecogreen F2 drives via my Promise SATA card. They show up in the BIOS as IDE drives, and I can't find any way to change them over to SATA within the BIOS. The net result of all of this is that when I try to boot into UNRAID, instead of taking me to the "root" login command, Linux just cycles through an endless list of errors as it tries to communicate with the Promise Card, and UNRAID doesn't load. Has anyone faced this kind of problem before? I'd be grateful for any suggestions you could offer. Apologies for putting all of this in layman's terms - will try to provide more technical information if needed. Many thanks for your help in advance. Andy My Hardware: PROMISE SATA300 TX4 RT Memory - CRUCIAL CT25664BA1067 - 2gb Hard Drives - 2 x Western Digital 2tb WD20EARS 64M 1 x Samsung 2tb 32M SATA2 HD203WI 4 x Samsung 1.5tb EcoGreen F2 HD154UI CPU - AMD SEMPRON 140 2.7Ghz Case - CoolerMaster RC-590-KKN1-GP Motherboard - ASUS|M4A785TD-M EVO 785G PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W RT" And I followed that up today with: "Hello again, Many thanks for all your suggestions - I've been trying a number of different things to try and isolate the problem, and i'm now up against my storage limit, so that has added a sense of urgency! I've tried different cabling for SATA and power connectors, and that has made no difference, so it's either an issue with the Promise Card or the Hard Drive. As there is already a Samsung HDD attached to a port on the Promise card, and it works just fine, so I can't understand why a second attached disk would be an issue. As you can see from the screenshots, the second disk is seen by the Tower in the bios loading and in the boot menu, so it seems to recognise the new disk. Both the disks attached via the promise card are stated as IDE - I still have not been able to access the Promise Bios to change this. I've put together a series of screenshots that may help you guys understand what i'm seeing - hopefully some of you may be able to make more sense of it than me! http://www.flickr.com/photos/55059159@N03/sets/72157625094030095/" Would be really grateful for any suggestions you could offer. Andy
December 30, 201015 yr what version of unraid are you using ? was this a working server or a new build? can you just unplug the newly added drive and boot normaly ? can you attach a syslog from the working server to see if all is fine without the Samsung drives
