New Server

Featured Replies

hello everyone.

i have built a new server and was wondering what is the best and fastest way to transfer all my files over. thanks

Where is your data right now? This will really determine the answer.

For example, if the data resides on another local server, a gigabit or 10 gigabit ethernet network connection could work.

In the past I have connected a PC over the network to the unraid server and copied and pasted the files to the shares using a piece of software called TerraCopy which has file verification built in.

Where are the files?

okay sorry about the vague about the problem. my files reside on another unraid and yes i have a 10 gigabit card on both but i am unsure how to use the between two unraid servers thanks for the reply's

The simplest and very close to the fastest way would be to use the two 10Gb cards.  From what I have surmised by reading the posts on the forum about using 10Gb cards in this fashion, you can simply plug the cable into both cards but I would think that you would need both cards IP addresses when you do this there will be no DHCP service.  I think most folks have used rsync for the transfer but I do not know the parameters.  You could try google and include the unraid as a search parameter.

Another option would be to connect them together via a 10 gig switch. You could then use a VM on one of the servers or a PC with a 10 gig NIC to copy the files across. This has worked fine for me using TerraCopy.

There are many ways to skin this cat.
