First time install: wrong IP

Featured Replies

Upon clean install and boot I get IPv4 169.254.xxx.xxx assigned.
Setting the right IP values using ifconfig does not change anything.
The ping command returns "ping: connect: Network is unreachable"
With no change to my network layout or settings, any other linux OS and Windows have no trouble getting the right IP.
The server has 2 network interfaces, one realtek on the motherboard (LEDs turned off) and one Intel NIC, which has a gigabit link speed but no activity.
What am I doing wrong?

Do you mean you can actually boot another OS on this same machine and get an IP, or do you mean you have other machines that are getting an IP?

169.254... means it isn't getting an IP from your router. Probably a cable or other hardware issue. You don't specifically say, but did you actually try both ethernet ports?

I cannot be a hardware issue, because it works on basically any other OS just fine.
I tried both ports, even tried a direct connection to another PC with the same 169.254 IP range (on both ports).
