I think the results would be interesting to a large number of us and would also help Tom prioritize his development efforts.

I chose "other" since my usage consists of all the other choices.  (with the possible exception of business use, although I do back up my quickbooks to a folder on the unRaid device.)

Yeah, I tried to set it up to allow multiple selections but that does not appear to be possible.

i use it for general file storage, movies, music, tv, backups, home directories, etc.

I use it for all of the above and I have rolled a few basic unRAID to some friends to use at their business. Once their storage needs increase, they will be upgrading to Pro.

 

I realize there aren't that many votes yet, but the results are starting to look skewed.  They certainly highlight one primary use of unRAID, but the poll seems very misleading as to the use of unRAID as a backup server.  When various uses were mentioned by posters above, backups were always mentioned, and if I could of, I would have split my vote between SageTV recording storage and backup server.  TV recordings overwhelmingly take up most of the space used, but its use as a backup server is probably more important.

 

Is there possibly any other poll mechanism with multiple choice?  Or could we have a second poll, 'What is your secondary unRAID use?', with all of the original choices plus 'None, it's dedicated to one use'.

I noticed the first option is the biggest bucket in the poll, maybe a deeper poll drilling down a bit futher?

Sometimes people buy/get/build for one reason but end up using it mostly for another.

Might be good to identify that.  That was the case for me, I originally built this for mirroring folders and backing up files but I end up using it more for the movie collection after.

All of the above.  The majority of storage space is dedicated to video (I hate looking between drives for a movie or tv show that I know exists), but I care more about protecting the documents and pictures it holds.
