I did run preclear on this one. It took about 30 hours which it sounds like is normal for a 2 TB drive, based on what I've read.

 

Do you still have the smart output from after the preclear?  If it was clean after the preclear, this is the first disk I've heard of that died an early death after preclear.

 

I removed the drive from my unRAID server and put it into a Win7 machine and tried to run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics on it and both the quick and extended tests failed to complete. The extended test failed because of "Too many bad sectors detected.".

 

I then put the disk back into the unRAID server and ran preclear with -n option to wipe the data in preparation to RMA the drive.

 

Now the stats show:

» reallocated_sector_ct=557

» reallocated_event_count=3

» offline_uncorrectable=106

» multi_zone_error_rate=126
