no network access

Featured Replies

my unraid server had been working perfectly for almost a year now and tonight it disappeared from my network.  i cannot access it from any computer on my network.  i cannot access any shares and i cannot hit the web interface.

i tried rebooting it and still i cannot see it on the network.

can someone please help?!

update: i just looked at the back of my unraid tower and the link light is not lit on the network jack.  the link light is also not lit on my router.  i tried swapping the cable and that didn't help.

i have the P5PE-VM motherboard which has an onboard NIC.  if the onboard NIC died, can i just drop a network card into a PCI slot?  what cards are supported by unraid?

I use the Intel PRO gigabit NIC in mine, it's no problem. There are others supported I believe, but I just like the Intel ones. Just be sure to go into bios and disable the onboard NIC (even though it appears to not be working).

i ended up stealing one out of another system on my network.  i have no idea what brand it was but it is a fairly new gigabit nic and it seems to work - woo hoo!

i didn't disable the onboard nic though.  i will be sure to do that tonight.  seems odd that the onboard nic just died out of the blue.  but the good news is that newegg will let me swap it out for a new one - i will just have to be without a mobo for a week or so while it is being shipped.

since it's died, it probably won't cause issues, but if it turns out to be some sort of intermittent issue and it comes back up, it will cause problems as unRaid isn't designed for multiple NICS, I don't think
