34ty9unvf2
I'm trying to pass an Intel Pro/1000 4-port NIC (specifically the IBM variant on their QVL) to my new toy (IBM 7946-32G X3550 M2) dual Xeon server. I'm trying to install an Untangle VM on a Linux VM and get it to take control of this NIC. Is this normal that they cut my NIC into four (or even 6) pieces? Either way, I have "pci-stub.ids=8086:10bc,111d:8018" in my syslinux config section, and the four ports appear as something I can pass to the VM on the GUI setup for the VM. However, when I try to start it, I get this error: internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2019-11-12T20:32:01.209727Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=1c:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.4,addr=0x0: vfio 0000:1c:00.0: failed to setup container for group 31: failed to set iommu for container: Operation not permitted If I unselect the first port on the GUI (1c:00.0), the second port (1c.00.1) comes up as an error. I tried adding the PCI Express Switches into the syslinux config but it didn't change anything. I haven't manually added the 1b:02.0 and 1b:04.0. Its still there in the above config. Here's the XML config on the VM: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <domain type='kvm'> <name>Untangle</name> <uuid>a5f13054-036b-c4f9-4ff5-6776b305f115</uuid> <description>my router</description> I didn't see "bus" info on anything I looked at. So I don't know how I could even manually add the PCIE Switches, if I wanted to add the entire IOMMU group. If I remove the NICs from the config the system boots just fine. What am I failing to understand? Quote Link to comment
34ty9unvf2
Update: Enabling unsafe interrupts got it to boot anyway. I'm attempting basic setup. Quote Link to comment
34ty9unvf2
Next update: Updated BIOS to try to get IPMI remote control working. IOMMU is now disabled and stuck there. I can't find a way to roll back the BIOS either. I think this machine is VM-bricked. Quote Link to comment
34ty9unvf2
I found a very old BIOS and rolled it back. After some scary boot-loops, IOMMU is enabled again and my four ports appear native to the VM. Quote Link to comment
