PreClear issues and some odd email messages

Featured Replies

Any idea why I am getting a string of these in my inbox?:

/bin/sh: line 1:  5704 Killed                  /usr/local/sbin/overtemp_shutdown.sh >/dev/null 2>&1

Also, I'm running the preClear script on 2 drives and one drive is going as normal, while the other one starts ok, then slows down to almost nothing. The emails also get periodically sent...

Temperatures all look normal. Drives being cleared are between 32 and 34C... So

Akkk! The only thing I can think of is I started the preclear process on the one that is misbehaving, then canceled by closing the Putty window. Could that have caused issues?

You've basically run out of memory and the linux kernel is killing off processes it thinks have been idle the longest.

Thanks Joe!

So it has nothing to do with physical drive temp?

Does this mean I should upgrade the ram? Currently have 2 GB

EDIT:

So I rebooted, and even before I started the new preclear, I got the shutdown email... Could my ram have gone bad, or could this be a bad disk (Just bought 2 new 20EARS).

Also, started clearing just the one, and it is going at 15 - 20 MB/s (When the other EARS drives are clearing at 90+)...

Maybe bad cable? I could swap it out for another one...

Update:

So now it doesn't want to preclear at all. Swapped out sata cable and rebooted. When I try to run preclear, I get:

=                unRAID server Pre-Clear disk /dev/sde
=                       cycle 1 of 1
= Disk Pre-Read in progress: % complete

That disk will probably not respond again until it is power cycled... (not just rebooted but power down, and then power up again.)

Ok. I'll try that. I'm going to preclear the first one as well I think, to see if the error messages are related to the oddly acting drive... Maybe they just shipped me a bum drive...
