cant use vista backup to backup files to my unraid server

Featured Replies

i just started playing with the backup utility built into vista (Windows Complete PC Backup) and i cant seem to get it to backup files to any share on my unraid server.

if i launch the backup and restore center and choose "Back up files", then choose "on a network:" and click browse, i am able to browse to all my unraid shares like normal but when i click next to go to the next step in the backup wizard it prompts me for a username and password (with the standard windows style popup).  i enter the credentials for an administrative account on the machine i am on, and it says "testing the backup location" and then i get the following error:

The network share could not be accessed for the following reason:

The array bounds are invalid (0x800706C6)

Please ensure that the network location is valid

what the heck is up with that?  anyone have any idea?

also another odd thing i noticed is that back in the first step if I choose the "Backup computer" option (instead of the "backup files" option)  there is no option to backup to a network location - only hard drives or cd/dvd burner.

any ideas please?

You should be able to get around the "network vs. hard drive" issue by mapping your network drives to a letter (i.e. U for Unraid).
