December 1, 201015 yr I tried this but had no luck. It kept telling me: "Coupon Code could not be verified, please try again." And I saw no option for google checkout.
December 1, 201015 yr Author My bad. The coupon deal expired. Funny it worked this morning. Google Checkout shows up on my browser. If you don't live in FL, IL, NC, TX, GA, SD, or ID...no tax.
December 1, 201015 yr how do you size a ups, or did I miss this on the wiki? Say I measure 3A at the wall, does that mean I can get away with a 360VA ups? How long does it last at the top most current draw? flips
December 1, 201015 yr Author You will want to measure the watts with all drives spinning when all drives spin up (max current draw). You can go with one of these estimators... http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6695.msg64801#msg64801 (Also read that thread for approximate sizing and estimated time based on watts. ) or the APC configurator http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm I set my unRAID to shutdown at 5 minutes remaining.

How long does it last at the top most current draw? flips No, it does not. 360VA is "marketing" talk... The actual amperage rating for use will probably be less than 3 Amps. One issue we face is that in a power-down situation we MUST be able to size the UPS for the peak demand of the server when initially spinning up all its drives at the same time. To shut down the server, all the disks must be cleanly un-mounted. That requires spinning them all up. The UPS must be able to handle the peak load of initially spinning the all drives up, all at the same time, not just the average load with them all spinning. I have a APC Back-UPS 750VA UPS on my older unRAID server. It is barely able to handle spinning up the 14 disks mounted in it. (all older non-green disks) It "beeps" telling me it is overloaded for a second or two if I loose power. It is only able to provide an estimated 7 minutes of run-time. It is "rated" at a nominal load of 450 Watts and with all its disks spinning during a parity check it is at 53% of its capacity. Joe L.
December 1, 201015 yr Thanks for the info guys! Right now I'm running a 550VA ups with only 2 green drives. I will soon be adding a 3rd green drive along with a couple of older 1tb drives I'm not using any more. I'm not sure if they are green or not. The other thread talks about getting the status of the ups. Is that a command inside the apcmon plugin? I'm traveling so not able to check now. thanks, flips

Otherwise, you can type on the command line after logging in as "root": /sbin/apcaccess status and get the same information.
