Recommendation for a motherboard (me to community)

Hi,

I'm reading a few threads here and there around Ryzen motherboards to use for Unraid.

I did some research a while ago into number of sata ports, m.2, which enabled/disabled based on PCI-E/m.2 usage, ect, all those usual caveats, and came up with the choice of the Asrock X570M Pro4.

For Unraid it has the following advantages -

On-board display ports

  • If using an APU
  • Saves the addition of a discrete GPU, so potential for lower power usage.
  • 3200G is more than fast enough for transcoding a few streams

8x SATA 6Gbps + 2x NVME PCI-E 4.0 m.2 slots

  • On-board capable of 8x storage devices before you add in any additional expansion cards.
  • All will function without impacting one another (as is common on some boards).
  • All will function irrespective of other PCI-E slot usage

Other

  • Flexible Fan control - can set mobo fan to differing speeds for silence or performance
  • 5x PWM fan headers, with 2x supporting higher wattages for pumps
  • 10 phase power design - good enough for everything currently out Ryzen wise.
  • 4x DIMM slots
  • mATX so it fits in smaller cases
  • USB-C/3.2 ports
  • Intel LAN
  • ECC Memory Support
  • Has m.2 key for WiFi addition to the board.

RGB supported, but no RGB on-board

  • Its a server, its not meant to look sparkley.
  • But you can add sparkles if you want ;-)

Only bad thing i've found is that if you enable Thunderbolt support in the BIOS, one of the m.2 slots gets disabled.

Just thought i'd share for others looking to build a Ryzen based system. 🙂

hey i wanted to check about this board if there is any issue with GPU pass throughs?

also wondering if this can boot without GPU?

i am planning to do a gaming build with some NAS capabilities

i mentioned more on what i am planning to do here.

Hi,

Sorry, just seen this, i dont come onto the forums here every day.

In regards to GPU pass-through, i personally have never tried it as i don't have a need, but i dont see why it would be different to any other X570 board to be honest.

Cheers!
