3Ware Breakout Cable alternative?

Featured Replies

I set up my system with only one breakout cable assuming I could use the onboard SATA to cover all my drives. Unfortunately the onboard SATA had to be disabled since Supermicro cards do not work with newer AMD chips. So now I need 3 more breakout cables, but of course they are now backordered until the new year.

So can someone recommend a good alternative, and one that wont cause any compatablity issues, to this 4 connector breakout cable:

3Ware CBL-SFF8087OCF-05M SFF-8087 to Discrete Forward Breakout Cable

Where in Canada are you located - ncix.com has some in stock and if newegg.com has it then newegg.ca should have it too.

And almost anything from EBay (SFF8087 to 4 SATA) is probably forward breakout cables (but the ones shipping from China) will probably come in 2011  ;)

Can you elaborate on the claim that SM cards do not work on the newer AMD chips. I will say that this is highly unlikely.

These are some places in Canada where you can buy the "forward cable" (length may be different):

The first store at C$11.55 has over 150 in stock

What issues are you having with the supermicro card and the AMD chipset?

have a look at this post. We've been having issues with the new asus board and the supermicro card for a while and I think we may have just found a solution. I believe the asus board has the sb950 chipset and some other but can't quite remember.

I could have sworn that NCIX did not have any. Now I see they do, but $40 for something I was paying $5 for :-(

As for the problem I am having with AMD chipsets, michellembrodeur is my roommate so the problem she is talking about is my problem. I work all ay and did not know they had found a solution. If it works I'm sending the second sata board back.
