Today's ad for Fry's in the Chicago area lists the Seagate retail box 8MB cache 500GB IDE drive for $189.99 after instant rebate, limit one per customer.  The best I've seen previously is $219. a few weeks ago.  Price is good thru Tuesday 5/16.  Looks like this is offered similarly in California stores:
