August 27, 200718 yr I have had my Unraid for a long time now but just developed a totally new problem. During DVD rip playback across the 100mbps network every once in while the movie will skip ahead almost like it went itno fast forward for a single second and then returned to normal. This does not happen if the DVD rip is on the local machine so it could be a network issue or an Unraid issue. The only thing that I have recently changed is a put a static IP on the Unraid where I had DHCP assignement previously. I can't imagine that would cause this but that's the only change. UPDATE - I have noticed yet another weird NEW thing, when attempting to Telnet to the box it takes about 20 seconds before I get the login screen, this normally would come up in a second. The web admin screen still comes up instantly. Any thoughts...

Did you possibly end up with two machines at the same IP address? It could also be a network card putting out garbage on your LAN, or even a virus attempting to send millions of spam each second tying up your bandwidth. (It is usually a bad network card putting out garbage when this happens in the commercial data centers) Joe L.
August 27, 200718 yr Author Joe how the heck are you...... So how can I test for this kind of thing to try and track it down....
August 28, 200718 yr doesn't even have to be a bad CARD, just a bad driver. The Intel drivers for the Pro100 used in IBM desktops and laptops a couple years ago (around the time of the T23 and T30 if I remember) would spew BILLIONS (think Carl Sagan here) and BILLIONS of packets out. Update the driver, smooth as glass. As to the 20seconds for the telnet to come up, someone else asked about that in another thread, but I don't remember the solution. I know mine takes a bit to come up, but not sure how long. I use static IP with a host entry on my desktop to point quickly and reliable to that IP from my server name
