April 11, 20206 yr Good morning all. I've just built my first unraid box out of an old pc. I'm going to be doing a case swap in the next couple of weeks as the old case doesn't have enough places to put drives. I may also be upgrading the motherboard etc later this year if I upgrade my main pc. When I rebuild the system will unraid recognize the disks even if they are in different sata ports or on a new motherboard, or will I need to rebuild the array in the new configuration? Thanks for the help Jim
April 11, 20206 yr Community Expert Unraid assigns disks by their serial number, assuming the controller passes that. If you aren't using RAID controllers (not recommended) it should just work.
April 11, 20206 yr Author Thanks for the reply. I am planning on putting a Rivo PCIe SATA Card in there. But not an actual raid card. I don't see that doing an actual raid is really going to bring enough benefits to be worth the hassles. I may leave that until after the case swap and then add it for future expansion.
