New User Trying To Get email notifications working

Hello All,

I finally was able to build my unRaid server this week. Things went smoothly with the build. I love the system so far. Going through the tutorial I competed the preclear process on all installed disks and got stuck on the email setup section.

I have tried various configurations but always get rejected. Here is the latest failed test section from the syslog :

Dec 30 15:10:10 Tower sSMTP[5845]: 550 5.1.0 <root@[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: aol.com

I have tried it with the "From LIne Override" on and off. The above addresses are fake of course but during the testing I used two of my valid email addresses in various configurations to no avail.

Notice the MAIL FROM:<root@[email protected]> line above. It almost appears that aol.com is seeing this as the sender address and is rejecting it. Is that the case? I wonder if it would work if the MAIL FROM line read MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>.

I appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thanks for a great forum and a great system. I have a lot to learn but that's the fun part.

Have a great new year,

Jim Spence ???

"AOL" blocks any e-mail that is not originating from [email protected]

You'll not have much success unless you give up your attempt at using "myself.com"

Hello Joe,

I understand what you are saying about aol.

I also tried using my @me.com with the same issues. Do you know if they act that way as well?

Thanks for any info.

Have a great new year.

You will probably only be able to get them to act as mail host if it appears as if it is

[email protected]

that is sending the mail.

They've had bad problems with spammers using them as a mail host in the distant past, so probably are very specific on who sends mail now.

Update

Hey Joe,

Got this working by setting up a gmail account. Like you said the others would not let me send emails.

Cool thing is that instead of sending me emails I set it up to send me text messages instead.

Thanks for the info.

Jim S.
