HBA mode and P420i RAID card performance impact

Featured Replies

I am getting a Proliant DL560 Gen8 server today, and it's got a P420i, which I understand does not play well with unraid, so the guidance is to disable it. Doing this also effectively removes my 2GB raid cache card from the system as well, right? So my question is, can unraid provide the same performance in HBA mode as other hypervisors can that don't require the hardware raid system to be disabled? I can tolerate a small performance penalty, but obviously I don't want to have any.

Thanks

Keith

Do you understand that Unraid IS NOT RAID?

There is no striping in the parity array. But Unraid has other advantages. You can mix disk sizes and easily add or replace disks without rebuilding the whole array. Each disk can be read independently on any linux, so if you lose more disks than parity you haven't lost everything.

Cache pool provides btrfs raid configurations and can be SSD for those cases where speed is important.
