Haxelon Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Hello. I am been using a consumer NAS for a few years and my current NAS mobo died yet again. I say again because it's the third time in 6 years! I use my nas for file / backup server and Bittorent only. In the future i would like to add support for Plex server and possibly light gameplay / HTPC VM. I do not want a big bulky tower. I do not need a large amount of data (i use 2x8tb drive in my current 4 bay nas.) Here is the config i am looking at: -AMD RYZEN 3 processor ( 3000 series ) Low heat output with 7nm lithography and ECC support for the non ''G'' -ASUS STRIX B450-I GAMING I found on reddit someone who use this MB with ECC supported memory. But if i go down that route i can't use processor that have an IGP. I will have to use the only PCI-E slot for a graphic card. And then I do not think i can passthrough my only graphic card to a VM to create a light gaming machine? Can someone confirm? -16Gb of memory -2 x 500gb m.2 drive in miroir mode for my Torrent download, container, plex server And other application i would like to add in the future. -2 x 8tb drive for archival use only. ( can be extended to 4 drives later on ) -IN WIN IW-MS04 or FRACTAL DESIGN NODE 304 I will go with the fractal design if i want to be able to add larger grafic card. It fit exactly what i need. Anyone has comment on this config before i pull the trigger? As for software: Since i will not going to access the data on my 8tb drive too offen i would like a software solution that allow me to power down the spinning drives when i do not use them. I saw that unraid can do it how easy is it to setup for a newcomer like me? Thanks in advance for everyone support Quote
Vr2Io Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Memory type not relate passthrough success or not, just because AMD APU can't use ECC memory but non-APU support both. 8 hours ago, Haxelon said: ASUS STRIX B450-I GAMING Only one M2 ( PCIe / SATA ) will available with Ryzen APU, and only one M2 (SATA) will available with Athlon APU.
