USB crash

Featured Replies

After the last few weeks of up-time I had a bit of maintenance to do on the server and I decided to move the USB drive inside while I had the case open.  From the logs, about 5 hours later my USB drive crashed.  Unraid seemed to keep working fine, the preclear script I was running finished ok, I didn't even notice it had crashed as I halfway monitored the preclear screens. It wasn't until today when I tried to access unmenu that I noticed something was wrong.  When I ssh'd in, everything seemed fine except the /boot/* files were MIA.

Attached is the syslog - does anybody have an idea of what happened?

After shutting down I checked the USB drive from windows and ran chkdsk and everything seemed fine so I reinstalled it and the server started right up.  Oh, I had grabbed and taken apart one of those two port external rear card slot USB headers to attach the USB drive to the MB, I stuck it on top of the power supply with double sided tape - after the crash I moved it to a new location thinking the power supply might have interfered with the drive function but that's just a wild ass guess.

PS Maybe we could allow rar files along with zip files to be uploaded, no big deal though.

Perhaps it was a loose connection.

The USB drive apparently was unplugged and plugged back in. (or, at least that is what the OS thought)
