Carpet3 test rig

I hoped to sit down and get this done a few weeks ago due to offer that HP was running ( http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9529.0 ) but I just didn't have the time.

It's a server by HP that I think makes a nice little unRAID system. It's pretty straight forward to get into and install drives and seems to work very nicely.

I'm only using this as a test system at the moment so no exciting capacities.

OS at time of building: 4.6 Basic

CPU: Dual Core 1.3 GHz AMD Athlon II

Motherboard: HP Microserver

RAM: 1GB DDR3 Unbuffered ECC

Case: HP Microserver

Drive Cage(s): One - Unknown brand - Probably HP

Power Supply: 200W

SATA Expansion Card(s): None

Cables: Standard SATA cables

Fans: 1 x 120mm (very quiet)

Parity Drive: Seagate 160GB (Model: VB0160EAVEQ - seems to be a model made specifically for HP)

Data Drives: Western Digital 150GB Raptor

Cache Drive: None

Total Drive Capacity: 5 drives.

Primary Use: Test unRAID server

Likes: Nice small size, VERY quiet, seems pretty fast.

Dislikes: Will be considered by some to be too small due to 5 drive limitation

Add Ons Used: unMENU, Sick beard + SABnzdb

Future Plans: Continue testing sick beard for a while then move to unRAID V5 beta, eventually use this system as a proper unRAID server.

Boot (peak): 61.4W

Idle (avg): 22.7W

Active (avg): 44.2W

Light use (avg): 31.2W

I've been running this for a few weeks and it seems very stable, i've not had any issues with it at all. The supplied HDD isn't up to much but I doubt many here would have much use for a 160GB drive anyway.

Although it has 4 3.5" drive bays you can add a 5th drive by using a 5.25" to 3.5" drive adapter and the spare SATA connector on the board.

What interface type are those two motherboard slots that we see at the back of the case?

Ye, that's a good idea if you don't mind having some external boxes.

So jealous - I'd love to be able to get one of those...

I want to build a high speed server and use my current one as dead storage with mostly green drives sleeping...waking up mostly once a month for data parity checks

helas not available in Canada!
