September 9, 200718 yr Ok I'm one that has a few media center pc's and for ease of use have drives mapped from unraid to the pc's. The first problem I encountered with user shares was I didn't make users for each pc. Basically I made user called user and then logged on and mapped the drives and logged onto unraid. Well the next time I booted the pc it took forever. It seems xp lost my login info. The solution I have now is to have unraid have a user identical to that of the xp boxes. So one is media the other mediacenter and both are now in users like that. Right now I don't have passwords set for them on unraid and its working. The question is it there a way around this or is it a fact of XP life? What would the best way be have mapped drives with passwords? Also Tom originally mediacenter the name had a space in it and unraid didn't like that so I got rid of the space and it worked fine. Are we going to be able to set levels of access per user share? Say I have 2 shares Movie and Files. I have 3 users x,y,z. Would it be possible to let x read/write to both and then let y just read/write movies and read only files and have z have them hidden read? Also I'm now having trouble connecting my laptop to the server. Even with my user name in unraid I can't connect. When I disable user security I can connect with no problem. Once for the login box it had unraid/guest grayed out so I couldn't change it. Would it be possible to have security for the admin pages and the server itself but not for the user shares?
September 9, 200718 yr When you login to example \\tower if you use default naming xp ask you an password then write user name and password in unRAID you would like to use and select remember password checkbox. Then that login will be saved to that windows users network password and will be remembered next time. You can delete that password under User Accounts in control panel. When you select windows user there is manage my network passwords at the left top corner.

Also Tom originally mediacenter the name had a space in it and unraid didn't like that so I got rid of the space and it worked fine. Right, embedded spaces are not permitted. Are we going to be able to set levels of access per user share? Say I have 2 shares Movie and Files. I have 3 users x,y,z. Would it be possible to let x read/write to both and then let y just read/write movies and read only files and have z have them hidden read? 1. For the Movies share: Export mode: Export read-only Exceptions: x,y Valid users: x, y, z This sets Movies to read-only, except for users x and y who can read/write. But the only users who can access would be users x, y, and z. 2. For Files share: Export mode: Export read-only Exceptions: x This sets Files to be read-only to all users except for user x who can read/write. 3. It is not possible to have shares hidden/not hidden on a per-user basis. To make a share hidden, means that it will not show up in a Windows "browse list". Yes, we'll add an option to password-protect System Management Utility and telnet, and leave shares wide open.
September 10, 200718 yr Author Tom Thanks for the quick response...I'm using XP Pro and media center versions Wanton Thanks for the tip "You can delete that password under User Accounts in control panel. When you select windows user there is manage my network passwords at the left top corner." I've found it and will try to see if this makes the systems work better together.
