Brand new drive failed in 11 days

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm brand new to Unraid and NAS in general. I purchased 4 8tb Toshiba N300s and my parity drive has failed after only 11 days. I've attached the SMART log, can anyone tell me what this means and what my next steps should be?

Thank you for your help

Most likely the drive was dropped at some point between when it was manufactured and installed.

Since it's brand new, I would return it to the vendor for a refund, and purchase a new drive to replace it. If you RMA it, you will most likely receive a refurbished drive.

Thank you jonathanm. Should I be worried about the other drives? They were purchased as a batch. What are the risks of leaving the array running with this drive installed? I'm 300miles away from it at the moment with no way to get there any time soon, I understand that I'll be running without functioning parity so if another drive fails I'll have no way to restore my data, but there isn't anything I'm too concerned about on there at the moment - what I am concerned about is the other drives failing as they aren't exactly cheap.

Run the extended smart tests on the rest of the drives.
