January 26, 201115 yr Ok, before I take my step into buying Pro license, I would like to get the fastest/most reliable USB key. Now my question is how much do I benefit investing into something like Quad-Channel SLC flash key (Buffalo http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fbuffalo.jp%2Fproducts%2Fcatalog%2Fflash%2Fruf2-rvs-sv%2F&sl=ja&tl=en&history_state0=) Is it worth the hassle importing this from Japan, or should I go for consumer MLC type key? How important is the the speed of the key? At the moment I have Corsair Voyager 8GB, but would I see any speed improvement with Buffalo key?

It is barely written to. You'll not see any improvement. It is read when booting but the uRAID OS runs in "RAM" memory. The 8GB drive you are currently using is perfectly fine, but way larger than needed. unRAID will fit on a 128 Meg drive. (Do they even make them that small anymore?) Most people use a 1 to 4 Gig drive, as they are common and inexpensive. Again, nothing wrong with using an 8Gig drive, but most of it will go unused. Joe L.
January 26, 201115 yr Author Thanks Joe, that sounds more appealing. I just thought I would use something bulletproof, as SLC is much more robust and have 10 times more write cycles, but as said, unRAID barley do any writing. Btw, how do you deal with dead usb key, as the license is linked to it? Do you need to send it to LimeTech in order to get license for other key?
January 26, 201115 yr Tom has been very helpful in the past with users whose flash died. I think all it took was sending an e-mail explaining what happened and provide him with a new flash GUID. As a precaution, I make a monthly backup of the flash to a drive outside the array.
