November 18, 20205 yr Apologies if this is already answered somewhere, I've done a fair bit of digging but haven't quite found the answer. I'm new to unraid, and still in the trial period but it seems pretty good so far. My main gripe is with the split level being based upon a share. It basically means I have to have 5 or 6 mapped drives in Windows in order to properly take advantage of the split level feature. It's not a horrific problem it's just a bit messy and I don't like relying on UNC paths, certain software today still won't handle them correctly (yeah I know its 2020 right?). So my primary idea was to use symlinks inside a new user share with links to the other shares. A "master" share if you will. The question is, will this break the split level feature of the base shares (Movies, TV, Apps etc) if accessed via the master share? I don't know at what stage in the pipeline the splitting is handled. Will the "master" share split settings override the base shares for example? Or will it cascade down and obey the split settings on the base shares? I might have to do some testing but I thought I'd ask the question and see if any Unraid guru's knew... Alternative solutions welcome! Cheers!
November 18, 20205 yr Author Thanks for the prompt response, I had though about something similar but I don't know how or if the split level feature will even work when setup in this way. Any ideas?
November 19, 20205 yr Community Expert Split level is about how Unraid chooses a disk for new writes to a user share. The video is about how SMB can be configured to share certain paths on your server. Totally independent concepts.
