Hi, I'm here for some advice for my new supermicro board.

At boot process I get an error got and then it's stuck.

On the screen it says "PEI-CPU Initialization" and in the right corner is a "B7".

I googled the code and found out that this is memory related.

I've tried two different memory sets. One 64GB set from Samsung (4x16GB) and one from SK Hynix (4x8GB), both with the same error code.

The motherboard is an Supermicro X11DPL-I for socket 3647. The manual says max. 8 GB for RDIMM but it doesn't work.

I also tried different combinations and just a single DIMM on the mainbaord in different slots.

 

Could the be a CPU or motherboard error. Or is it RAM related, because it's not on the supported list from supermicro?

are both sockets populated?  If using only a single socket, are you using the right one?

 

Also, if you are using both, you must have RAM spread across both.

Yea, I'm just using CPU1 slot atm and I tried it on the CPU1 RAM slots.

That motherboard should support a single CPU in CPU1 and and a single DIMM in P1-DIMMA1.

 

Is it possible the CPU is newer than the BIOS supports?

 

I typically only buy RAM that is on the SM approved and tested list.

Also, have you reset BIOS to make sure nothing like memory speed was set directly?

Thank you for your help. Sadly the bios reset didn't helped. It's also the newest version.

So it's a defect or the ram is not compatible. I think I'm gonna refund the MB & RAM.

Interesting, because I also have a similar problem. The eternal Supermikro startup screen, “System initializing” on the bottom left and “B7” on the right. It is also impossible to enter the bios. I bought a used board and there was already a Windows on it, I couldn't download a new one from a flash drive, so I downloaded “gparted-live-1-7-0” via IPMI and uninstalled everything through it, then installed “windows_server_version_1909_x64_dvd” but I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it again with “gparted-live-1-7-0” after which the eternal boot began. I reset the bios by removing the battery, also updated it via IPMI, it does not help

B7 means Configuration Reset (reset of NVRAM settings), so try resetting the CMOS. Removing the battery isn't enough, you have to also remove all power and then short the pads on the motherboard used for that purpose, so follow the procedure in the motherboard manual. If that doesn't work, replace the battery, if that doesn't work, the board is probably broken.

It didn't help( I rebooted it three times and changed the battery. 
But how can this be, Windows started, the bios also started, but after uninstalling it won't boot?

What I would do, remove everything from the board except power, the CPU and cooler, then start it up. It should beep with no memory found. Then add one dimm in the first slot the manual says you should put it in, and then try to boot. Hopefully it does, because that means one of the devices or a bios-setting is an issue. If it doesn't boot, something about the board is broken, so I'd reflash the BMC through IPMI, and the BIOS, and see if it boots then.
