April 30, 20188 yr I have a relatively new Dell R430 Server with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v4 @ 2.10GHz I installed UNRAID recently with plex docker. Plex keeps buffering since it's running out of CPU. I had the same problem with VMware running a windows instance with plex. Any idea why it's doing this? I have 32GB ram installed. Single Processor.
April 30, 20188 yr Are you certain it is buffering because it is running out of CPU? It could it be network issues, client you are using, source material, or transcode options. Probably a few more I am forgetting.
April 30, 20188 yr Author When I use a MACPRO I have no issues. Player is ROKU. Looking at the CPU usage, couple of the cores get pegged at 100%. Same problem happened when I was running VMware on the same box with a windows instance running Plex Server

Same problem happened when I was running VMware on the same box with a windows instance running Plex Server I assume when you are using a MacPro native, it's not buffering (vs. OSX on a VM). So I ran across this info that might help... Your CPU vs. mine https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Xeon-E5-2620-vs-Intel-i5-2400/1214vs793 And then this comment in the Plex forums...https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1495510/#Comment_1495510 Quote avoid those with a 'single thread rating' below of 1350 points Edited May 1, 20188 yr by whipdancer updated info
May 1, 20188 yr Author Thanks whipdancer. I thought it was a processor issue for a long time. I'll look at which processors will work with the r430 board.
May 1, 20188 yr Author My CPU is the 2.10GHZ model which has a single thread rating of 1541 which should be okay???
