  1. Is there a way to install a web server that is not the simplefeatures one? as soon as I install that one everything breaks and I need to reboot

(of course this is becasue I'm on rc2 of simplefeatures)

Is there a way to install a web server with PHP that isn't the simplefeatures one? I tried lighttpd but could not get fastcgi working. webserver runs fine but that's it.

    anyone>???

  2. I've seen multiple threads dating all the way back to 2010 about running ffmpeg or handbrakecli on unraid.

My thought is: I have a lot of mkvs (movies and tv shows)

I need to convert the container to MKV (the encoding is fine) because as MKVs, my rokus need transcoding from my server. and that's fine since I have a quad core and it can easily handle my rokus. But my thought is, why not convert it all and never have to transcode it?

So what are my solutions here guys? I'm on the verge of installing a virtualbox on my unraid (for other reasons/necessities) and I might just use that virtual box to do the processing but I figured doing it natively would be more efficient

    thanks

  3. I'm sorry to dig this up out of its grave but I have one question/concern as far as running unRAID on ESXi

    Permissions.

Currently everything I run (SAB, CP2, Sickbeard) all run as nobody, and as such, all my things are chowned by nobody:users.

anything I create from a windows machine on a unraid share has weird chmods and will typically be chowned by whateveruser:whateveruser.

the problem arises here: Is there a way for the windows boxe when they create files, to create them with the chown to whateveruser:users so that it's not limited to just whateveruser? This is because most of my shares are chmodded at 770 or 740 and if it's not the same EXACT user that accesses that share, he can't get access. I don't care much for the file side of it, I care more for the fact that I'm going to outsource SAB/CP/Plex/etc to a separate VM, and I imagine it too, will have the permission problem.

anybody have any clue how to fix it, or even what the heck I'm tlaking about? I might just try to setup the trio+Plex on my laptop using the unraid as storage and see if it works... it just might!

  4. that's what I do as well. it's all on /usr/local/, all my configs are on a secondary flash drive (which gets rsynced every night to hard drives and remote server via ssh) which is /mnt/disk/config/

I don't really want to reboot the server until I have to (which I will in a week or so when I get my ram back from gskill) so I'll check it out then.

question: Can I use the in app updater for any of the plugins? I haven't been doing so worried that it would break the install.

  5. the only permission error I can get from the logs is this recurring one:

08-21 08:38:33 ERROR [potato.core._base.updater] Failed using source updater. [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'/mnt/disk/config/cp2/cache/version'

But why will it work when run manually but not automatically?

the permission to the file was w-w-r (224 weirdly enough)

I chmod'ed it to 776 (did the other as a 6 just in case)

  6. Hey influencer,

Having some trouble with the couch potato plugin.

I have had it installed and working for a good while. recently, anytime I reboot (I'm only rebooting now for testing this specific problem) the couch potato plugin does NOT install. all the others install and startup normally and effortlessly. but cpv2 just shows up on the simple features settings as uninstall. I hit install and start, and it works. but I do this literally every reboot. I've checked the file permissions and they are identical to all the other plugins. I'm at a loss here...

  7. no updates on this? I just need 2.7, I would specifically not like 3.x because there are far too many new changes for software to work with it ATM.

I can install it no problem I'm sure. the problem would be on a reboot (which should only happen maybe once a month, but will happen nonetheless)

  8. first of all:

THIS IS AWESOME!  Everything works fine. used to be on the windows version of these, now I'm on unRAID..

everything works fine, I have the configs all on a non array mounted download drive. This works great but I'm having a small issue. This drive will NOT spin down because of CP, SB and sab (and of course plex). I can run a lsof +D of the drive and see hundreds of lines, if I grep just cp2 , sb, and sab, I get about...30-40 entries by cp2, 5 by sab and 2 by sickbeard.

how do I get cp2 to get off of my drive? I've already tuned the rss feed deal to check every 48 hours, among other little things.

on sab I've tuned the folder watch to 3600 seconds with NO folder in place to make sure it's not doing anything.

I can manually spin it down (hdparm -y /dev/sd[x]) and it will stay spun down for a few minutes (abut 5 minutes)

any help would be appreciated. I want to waste as little electricity as possible.

I may also just mount an 8G flash and use that as the config drive. that way spinning down/up is no issue. What do yall think?

To clear it up my process goes: sab/cp/sb run on /usr/local and configs are in my drive (/mnt/drive/cache). they download to /mnt/disk/cache/downloads and then the post processing gets them all into my array. that all works great. it's just the lack of spin down from what I assume is cp.

  9. thanks,

I'm not at all new to linux and I understand top and all that.

thing is, it's not always on top, so my question is, how do I know when it's actually cached?

And also about the memory usage, the memory will be used up regardless of cachedirs, cachedirs isn't what takes it up, it's the system who takes the memory and assigns it to buffer (as indicated by the 'free' command)

but  yeah the thing I want to know is how do I know if my caches are updated, without ls-ing around and watching disk spinups

  10. couple of things:

The icon for cachedirs doesn't show up for me (minor inconvenience)

more importantly: How do I know if cachedirs is actually caching? should browsing my plex clients keep my array spinned down until I select a file?

(plex settings are on a Non array disk, completely separate. mounted by SNAP)

  11. Hey everyone, first time poster!

Got my box setup these past few days, still tweaking and preclearing and trying to figure out whether or not I'm gonna use a cache drive but that's all besides the point.

HD Tuner cards. I want to use the xbmc mythtv frontend on my appletv, for that I would need a mythtv backend. I am aware that unRAID doesn't run mythtv. I do remember reading that it does some sort of PVR backend.

Question is: What would be my best choice for tuner to make this happen? a cheap HD PCI card, HDHomerun (really don't need this much, all TVs have rokus and hd locals already plugged in), or what else?

With unRAID running that is (natively, not in ESXi or a VM or full slackware).

If my choices would be better with a full slackware install, that's fine too, I just want something that I'll be able to control somehow either through another computer, appletv1 (Crystalbuntu + XBMC), or what have you.
