  1. Just about every network wire put out in the last few years is CAT5e or proposed cat5e standard, and will run gigabit speeds with out an issue. CAT6 is for running 10Gigabit speeds and above. Yes it will run 10/100/1000 but also if verified it will run 10/20/or 20Gigabit speeds. The biggest problem with going from cat5 to cat6 is the wire size is different, causing you to have to buy all new punch downs or crimp on ends. Now back on task... I've been running this board, with 4gb of RAM for just over a year. Mine was a beta board, with a less than perfect bios when it shipped. Never have had an issue with it. I'm also running the supermicro sas 8port board for hosting all 14 drives i need.
  2. Hey thanks it is under warranty i'm sending it off to get replaced but still need to expand my storage
  3. Its been running for a little 2.5 years, almost 14Tb in my unraid and That drive has been showing its age. Replaced it with a seagate ST31000340AS until i order some new 2Tb wd green drives. Not bad for a non enterprise drive.
  4. I've had great success with hostgator.com
  5. Parity Check Speed = 71,008 KB/sec

  8. I'm not doing something right. Following the info on google code i downloaded the zip to my windows xp pc. unzipped using winrar and got unmenu_install out. Using hyper terminal connected to my server login and did the mkdir /boot/unmenu that seemed to work.. so i went to my network and found the flash drive share and went to copy the file over that way but i dont see the /boot/unmenu. So i created the unmenu directory copied the file in. Went back to my hyper Terminal to run the unmenu_install -i -d /boot/unmenu command and get, -bash: unmenu_install: command not found So what am i doing wrong? running Pro version: 4.5.3
  9. - move the syslinux to your c:\ drive in my computer - go to start menu -> run -> type cmd - in the cmd (dos) window type c:\syslinux.exe -ma f: (make sure f: is your usb drive check under my computer for drive letter) - once finished copy over files from the zip more info here

  15. I'd really like to build a 2nd Unraid and have the data from mine replicate to the offsite one. I've even got space in a data center about 20 miles away to host it. But I've never found a good solution for keeping the data on both up to date. What are you using? note i'm not a Linux guru
  16. cant find any info on what files need to be moved over to do the upgrade properly. wiki says to check the release notes, and there is install help in the release but not upgrade help. edit.. Found them in another release thread. Upgrade Instructions (Please Read Carefully) ============================================ If you are currently running unRAID Server 4.2-beta1 or higher (including 4.2.x 'final'), please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot If you are currently running unRAID server 4.0 or 4.1, please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot syslinux.cfg menu.c32 memtest This can be done either by plugging the Flash into your PC or, by copying the files to the 'flash' share on your running server. The server must then be rebooted. If you are currently running unRAID Server 3.0-beta1 or higher, please follow these steps to upgrade: 1. Referring to the System Management Utility 'Main' page, make a note of each disks's model/serial number; you will need this information later. 2. Shut down your server, remove the Flash and plug it into your PC. 3. Right-click your Flash device listed under My Computer and select Properties. Make sure the volume label is set to "UNRAID" (without the quotes) and click OK. You do NOT need to format the Flash. 4. Copy the files from the new release to the root of your Flash device. 5. Right-click your Flash device listed under My Computer and select Eject. Remove the Flash, install in your server and power-up. 6. After your server has booted up, the System Management Utility 'Main' page will probably show no devices; this is OK, navigate to the 'Devices' page. Using the model/serial number information gathered in step 1, assign each of your hard drives to the correct disk slot. 7. Go back to the 'Main' page and your devices should appear correctly. You may now Start the array.

    Growing Pains

damn.... so i've got two options, wait it out, or buy a different card...
  19. currently i'm using three of the supermicro 5 in 3 in my server. I really like them. I was not a happy with the amount of fan noise they had so i did remove the fans. But, I had a lot of exhaust fans in my case that pull significant air over the drives, and for the first few days i closely monitored the drive temps as i was moving files onto, and off of the server.

    Growing Pains

My current unRAID build is using the 6 on board SATA connections. I'm currently at about 70% capacity and would like to expand the number of usable drives i have. After some research, i've ordered the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. I have two open PCI-e x4 ports on my motherboard, so adding the card is not an issue, and i have several 9 available drive trays. But i do have a question. Will this card be "plug n play"? If I power down the system, add the card, add a few drives power up the system will it find the card, and drives and allow me to add them to the array? If not, what needs to be done?
  21. I started a year ago using WD 1TB green drives (5 at that time) and now i'm up to 10. I have my system set to spin down my drives after 2 hours. I've never had any issues with any of my drives to date.
  22. Try using this drive. Its about the fastest drive you can find. I have one as my cache drive. All my other drives are WD Green 1TB drives.
  23. @WeeboTech Rsync, and unison seem to be what i'm looking for. Not much doc on how to get rsync running on unraid. I really like the idea of using ssh that will keep me from having to maintain a vpn running. Now if anyone has a walk through on how to get this running.... ?
  24. I'd like to set up an off site "backup" unRaid box. Is there any software that could run and do this in the background? I have a vpn setup to my remote location so if i added the unraid box to the remote location i could see it but i dont want to manually copy the files over each time something is changed. Thanks
  25. This board works great, 6 SATA2 ports, and motherboard USB header. if you need to add more drives it has dual PCIe slots.
