  1. It indicates the SATA cable picked some noise from an adjacent cable and the checksum on the data packet being transferred to or from the disk over the cable did not agree with what was expected. I personally DO NOT think it is a reason to RMA the drive on the end of the cable. It is more a reason to NOT tie-wrap the SATA cables together or to any other wiring. Thanks for the reply, I think I will remove my zip ties now like as you said they're all tugging on eachother and making eachother loose in addition to interference. How can I get my unRAID server back to normal? Can I reuse this drive in the array? I have a 3TB drive in my array that is empty can I use it to swap it into the failed drive's place if it can't use the failed drive anymore? Thanks Joe!
  2. After looking at my SMART data for the red ball drive... I found this: 199 UDMA CRC Error Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old age Always Never 1 I've seen this in the past with a HDD I've had before. Faulty cable perhaps? I should RMA this drive right? I have one 3TB WD Red assigned but nothing is stored on it, how can I reassign this drive to replace the failed drive? Also does anyone know what's going on in the syslog? Thanks in advance.
  3. Basically I'm pretty sure I screwed up on my part during the upgrade and now I'm looking for some help as a total unRAID noob. I followed the instructions by shutting down my unRAID server then taking the usb flash drive and connected to other PC to overwrite the old bzroot and bzimage files with the new unRAID 5RC11 ones. It started fine so I proceded to upgrade my SimpleFeatures from 1.05 to 1.0.11 and deleted unmenu and it's packages, that went without a hitch as well. The next step is where I went wrong, I accessed the flash from my network and copied my previous config files from 1.05 to the locations where 1.0.11 ones are stored. Then I stopped my array, but the web gui froze and I tried going back in and nothing happened. I went to my server and typed in powerdown, but at this point I didn't realize that I had removed unmenu as well as it's safe powerdown script. The server finally powered down and then when I turned it back on, it had missing drives. So I checked my bios settings and they were infact missing. I rechecked the wiring and went back into the bios, they reappeared again. Starting unRAID I noticed that it kept on trying to reset sata port #7 and lowering it's speed each time, 6gbps to 3gbps to uma 133, then it would finish booting and prompt to the server login prompt. Now all the drives showed up but disk 3 is now redballed and disabled. I reverted back to 5rc8a on my flash drive and started again, same thing happened with the sata port but disk3 is no longer redballed? None the less I did not try to start the array because I would probably do more damage to it. I again upgraded the flash drive to 5rc11, this time with unmenu and simplefeatures 1.0.11 with default configs, reset my bios, changed the cable on sata port 7 and now the sata port issue is solved. I still have the red ball, disabled drive. TL;DR version 1. Upgraded successfully to 5RC11, deleted unmenu folder and packages folder, installed simplefeatures 1.0.11, copied old config files for simplefeatures, attempted to stop array, froze, typed powerdown in shell without unmenu and powerdown script. 2. On power on, drives missing, restarted drives recognized, suffers errors on sata port 7, disk3 red balled (disabled). 3. Powerdown, copied backup of flash drive contents when 5rc8a was running on it, turned server back on, all seems fine, red ball drive is now green again, did not start array because afraid of messing it up more. Still suffer SATA port errors. Power down again. 4. Reset and reconfigured bios, copied back 5rc11 + unmenu and packages + simplefeatures plg files onto flash drive, powered on, disk3 is red balled (disabled). And before I start the array or when I start it, this keeps getting repeated. 4. I'll check if they are any bios update for my brand new motherboard on my unRAID server but I would highly doubt my other computers all need bio updates for LAN to be compatible. Though it doesn't seem like a LAN problem since when I enable the cache drive this doesn't happen also my transfer speeds seem to be average like everyone elses using unRAID. 25-30MB/s without cache, 90-150MB/s with cache drive. It's only when I disable the cache drive and have unRAID transfer directly into my data drives that it stutters. Transfer speed doesn't drop but the video stream stutters.
  5. I have simplefeatures and unmenu both installed ATM. I have plugins on both installed. When I check the status, it's not using much cpu. Is there a way to reinstall unRAID? Thanks!
  6. hmm, possible... I enabled my cache drive and now it doesn't stuttering when I stream videos and transfer at the same time? So perhaps the problem is how unRAID is handling the files onto the drives? Thanks!
  7. Nope, video only stutters on the PC that is copy/moving files/folders, in your example it is PC-2. PC-1 is fine. I noticed this problem when I was watching something on my HTPC and something finished downloading and I decided to move it to my server, as the file was transferring the video was stuttering or frozen. Using VLC if that matters. Tried it with my other PC and same thing. Other PCs connected to the server stream fine, PCs only stuttering if they are transferring to the server. Thanks! This indicates that the client PC is not capable of playing while copying. It seems to be happening on all my PCs though. I never had I problem when I used my HTPC (windows 7) as my file server (drive shares through the network) while copying/moving files and playing. So I honestly don't know what is wrong. All my client PCs have gigabit NICs. I'm thinking it's either a network issue or the unRAID server. I'm sure my client PCs are capable, since they worked fine when I used my Windows 7 HTPC as a file server in the past. My PCs that I've tested on so far are: Asus P6T, Core i7 920 OC'd to 3.8GHz, 12GB of ram <-main rig Some Gigabyte LGA 775 board, Pentium dual core E6500, 4GB of ram. <-HTPC Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H, Athlon II x4 640, 6GB ram. <-bed room HTPC ...etc. Have more PCs, but these are the main ones I use. I doubt that my hardware is incapable of playing and doing other things like copying files at the same time. Any ideas? Thanks again! EDIT: Would it matter if I was using a version of 5 rc8a that was modified by a user with a driver added. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=22615.msg201529#msg201529 I was using it because my previous NIC I had on my board wasn't compatible. My new and current board has a Realtek 8111DP. Would it be compatible with 5 rc8a natively? How would I go about installing that version?

  9. The problem is that when I moves files (a large file or season folder) and try to stream video of any quality, the video stutters and freezes on the same computer I'm moving/copying files from. I'm on gigabit lan, all wired. Any other computer will access the server fine. My server specs are: Gigabyte B75M-D3P Intel Core i3 3220 6GB of DDR3 1333MHz Ram
  10. Running unRAID 5.0 RC8a Pro I just updated my motherboard+cpu on my server and noticed error lines in my log. Just wondering what these mean. 353: Nov 26 02:04:44Server kernel: pci0000:00: ACPI _OSC request failed (AE_ERROR), returned control mask: 0x1d 738: Nov 26 02:04:44 Server kernel: ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF] (Node f4069108), AE_NOT_FOUND (20120320/psparse-536) 737: Nov 26 02:04:44 Server kernel: ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20120320/psargs-359) Secondly on boot, it gets to (sdf is my flash drive): sd 0:0:0:0: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk and seems to stay there for a bit. Whereas I think my old board + cpu loaded right past it. Lastly, I find that when I am moving/copying files from a pc into a user share, on the same pc, if I'm streaming a video from the server, the video either freezes or stutters and buffers. Is this normal? Thanks in advance!
  11. Hi everyone! Recently joined this forum after trying out the free version of unRAID 4.7. I was suggested by a friend to try unRAID for a solution for protected storage after my current "file server" setup (HTPC with a couple of hard drives in it running windows 7 and network shared) had all the hard drive SMART error out on me, especially one 2TB WD Green that failed on me. So I went down to my computer graveyard/new parts stash to pick out some parts to start the build. Only money I spent went to the local computer store to buy 3x 2TB WD Reds and a unRAID pro key. Another Antec 300 build Antec 300 (Brand new, bought during a sale a year ago for $10 ) Corsair CX430 v2 Asus P5N73-AM Pentium 4 HT 640 @ 3.2Ghz 1.5gb of DDR2 677mhz Kingston ram (1gb stick + 512mb) TP-Link TG-3269 Gigabit NIC (R8169) 3x 2TB Western Digital Red (1 Parity, 2 data) 320GB Western Digital Caviar Blue (Cache) BTW, I used up all my sata ports... any recommendations for pci/pci-e 4 port sata cards? Thanks Drilled a couple of holes for cable management
  12. I just tried it as well... working for me... copying files over to my newly built unRAID server now Props to piotrasd
