  1. binhex - A gentle reminder again on sabnzbdvpn. This docker is still not working, tried to create a fresh install and get the same error. Can you please see whether the rollback to previous version actually worked? Thanks!

Happy new year all!, as you all spotted i dived in and applied the roll-back of the packages to keep things going whilst we wait for a real fix to the issue. I have also decided on a new years resolution, and that is to tag every release i do so that we can more easily go back to the previous build if things go bad, ive kinda shied away from doing this as it does mean extra manual work, but ive been bitten twice now with other packages causing issues so im going to start implementing this from now.

I have applied the roll-back to deluge as well as delugevpn, so please download the latest image if your still seeing issues.

  2. binhex - After updating, the sabnzbdvpn docker isn't working. Can you please check? Thanks.

  3. As Chris said, it should be smooth. Unraid 'remembers' the drive numbers using the disk id's. So you can replace your entire system hardware and still have your base unraid setup uninterrupted if you hold onto all your hard drives and the unraid usb drive.

    hi everybody,

I searched the forum for this question, but i couldn´t find anything.

I am new to unRAID but absolutely fascinated. My Server is now up and running.

Now I have no more free sata connectos on my board or on my sata card.

Is it possible to change the card, connect all drives an get the server up and running again?

Or do I need to set it up completely again?

Sorry for any wrong words, I´m from Germany, so not a native speaker.

I would love to use a cache drive, which was no option in the beginning.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help!

    Greetings Bjoern

  4. What you did sounds about right, change the dockers to any available port on the host so that there is no conflict and the new port is unused by any other app/docker.

Thanks for the fix binhex, was wondering if you saw my last post before the vpn issues in reguards to sabnzbdvpn.

Also to get both delugevpn and sabnzbdvpn working at the same time I chenged the host port from 8118 to 8119 on sab.  Just wanted to know if this is the correct way of having them both run or if there is a best practice I should be following.

    Thanks

  5. binhex - As others have said, the vpn versions of both deluge and sabnzbd are not working. Below is a log from sabnzvpn:

    root@Tower:/mnt# docker exec -it binhex-sabnzbdvpn /bin/bash
    [root@b827e7e547ef /]# cat /tmp/start-stdout---supervisor-0CieO_.log
[info] VPN is enabled, beginning configuration of OpenVPN
[info] VPN provider defined as pia
[info] VPN provider defined as pia
[info] VPN provider remote gateway and port defined as nl.privateinternetaccess.com 1194
[crit] VPN port not found in ovpn file, please check ovpn file for port number of gateway

Can you please update when you get a chance? I will not start both of important dockers unless the VPN works for them.

    Happy holidays and new year!

  6. I was waiting to uninstall SNAP since I had trouble mounting one of my SSD with btrfs using unassigned plugin. I decided now is the right time to move away from SNAP.

    a. I need help with one of my btrfs SSD. Although this drive is getting mounted, there is no status message indicating it has been mounted. The 'mount' button is enabled and temperature shows *

    b. I see that all unassigned drives (mounted and unmounted) show drive temperatures anytime I refresh the screen. These drive icons are also green. Raid drives are greyed out indicating they are spun down and show * temperatures. The default spin down time is 15 mins. Does unassigned devices plugin spin down drives (mounted and unmounted)?

    SNAP is not supported.

As for mounting with this plugin, did you watch the video in the first post, all the way to the end?

  7. trurl - I did smart checks for the remaining disks and replaced the bad disk with a new one. The data got rebuilt and I am good. Thank you!

Deleting everything on a drive is not the same as clearing a drive. It will still have the data that you deleted. It will just have its filesystem written to indicate the data is deleted, and it will have the filesystem "data" that indicates an empty filesystem. So removing it will invalidate parity since it is not clear.

In any case, this is entirely the wrong way to think about drive replacement. Replacing a broken drive is why you have a parity disk. Just shutdown, replace the broken disk with the new disk, start up and unRAID will rebuild the drive's data to the new drive.

Might be a good idea to go to Tools - Diagnostics and post the complete diagnostics zip so we can check your other drives to make sure they aren't likely to interfere with the rebuild.

Also, it is technically not required that a replacement disk be clear since it is just going to be overwritten with the old disk's data anyway. A clear disk is only necessary when adding a drive to a new slot. This is so parity will remain valid, since a clear disk has no effect on parity. Preclearing a new disk is still recommended anyway to test it.

If you have any questions about any of this just ask.

  8. Hi - I am using this plugin in a 6.1.6 pro server with about 9 unassigned disks. All f them are working fine, thank you for the plugin!

I have a question on the spindown. The default spindown is 15 mins and I do not seem to see the disks spinning down. Anytime I pull up the tower main page, all the disks are lit up green and show a disk temperature including unmounted disks. The raid disks do not show this behavior. If they are spinned down, the disk icon is greyed and there no disk temperature reported. Am I interpreting this behavior correctly?

Also, how do I custom mount the disks at a specified mount point and name? I am still using the SNAP plugin that mounts one of my vm ssd.

  9. Hi - I have a broken sata connector drive that is functioning for now. The sata cable ripped off the connector on the drive. I have the array functioning well for now by gluing in the sata cable to the hdd broken port. I have a replacement being pre-cleared right now. What is the best way to replace the data on this broken drive without losing parity?

    My plan:

    1. I was thinking about adding the new precleared drive to the array

    2. move the data from broken HDD to the new drive

    3. delete everything on broken drive

    4. remove the old broken drive drive

Will my parity be intact during this process? I am not sure about the approach on step 4, I think removing an empty drive will still destroy parity.

  10. After upgrading through the GUI, rebooted the server and started a parity check early this morning. I logged in to see the status this evening and was surprised to see this message:

    "

    unRAID Parity check: 03-12-2015 14:25

Notice [TOWER] - Parity check finished (0 errors)

Duration: unavailable (no parity-check entries logged)

    "

Typically it takes about 13 hrs to complete the parity check and the last time it was couple of days ago on 12/1 with 0 sync errors. What does the above update mean?

  11. I have the same mobo and does a very good job for gpu pass through. One thing to be aware of is that in the third pcie slot, only some sata cards work and also needs a separate molex power in if you are going to use that slot at all. Overall, a good mobo that I have been happy with for about a year.

    Hey Jon,

Thanks for the quick reply!  I really appreciate it!  :)

    So according to this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LnGpTrXalwGVNy0PWJDURhyxa3sgqkGXmvNCIvIMenk/edit#gid=0

I should get the ASRock Z97 Extreme6 and that should work for my needs.  What do you think?

I also can't find where in the KVM forums they talk about GPU assignment with MAC.  Mind posting a link?

Thank you for all you do!  :)

  12. Couple of observations:

    1. I have a SASLP-MV8 and the parity check was very slow on 6.1.1, about 16.5 hrs compared to 11.5 hrs on 6.0. With this update it is back up to ~ 11.5 hrs now.

    2. With the disks spun down, starting parity checks shows temps as * while there seems to be progress on parity check (went up to 0.8%, 130MB/s). I was unsure what was going on and stopped it. I spun the disks up and running parity check again.

  13. Rob - That was a scary and informative post, thank you for sharing! We access all files on our network through smb shares and same windows/unraid username and password. I can tighten up some policies but unsure what else to do and avoid this. I and my wife are cautious about opening files from unknown sources.

This is off-topic and for that I apologize.  I wanted to reach the most possible unRAID users.  I'll be happy to move it to a better place anyone can suggest.

A user's wife clicked a link she should not have, and an encryption virus (commonly known as ransomware) came in and encrypted most of her system AND most of the files on the unRAID server!  Obviously, this is a very serious danger for unRAID users.  unRAID users are not necessarily more vulnerable to attack, but by its nature unRAID systems provide access to more users, family members who are often less experienced and more prone to click seductive links.  Plus, unRAID systems have FAR more to damage than most people have.

I think it's prudent for unRAID users to examine their accessibility policies and settings, and consider tightening them.  Consider providing read only access to users who like to click links.  And make sure that everything you have that's important is not just backed up, but backed up to a location that's generally inaccessible.  The following link has the story and more advice, plus other anecdotes.  Please follow up there, not here.

      I got an encryption virus!!!

  14. Scott- could you please confirm that you do not have this issue under this scenario:

    1. Label a completed torrent

    2. Move the labeled torrents to a new directory

    3. Rebooting the server or restarting the docker and completed file gets updated. In my case this completed file still shows 100% but is corrupted after a while.

I periodically rsync this completed directory from my cache to user share and under this scenario, I see a second rsync after reboot of this previously completed file and is not playable after the second rsync.

EDIT: Do you have plans for getting a transmissionVPN out? I have the delugeVPN but there is a bug in the app where if the docker is restarted (server rebooted fpr eg), the completed torrents in labeled and moved directories get corrupted. I have lost many completed files in the last few months and I scramble to delete the completed torrents whenever the server is rebooted. I have used transmission for many years prior which worked without issues at all.

i wasnt aware of this bug, probably cos i dont leave stuff hanging about seeding for long lengths of time. i did start working on a transmissionvpn and have got some way through it but real life got in the way so it never got completed. if there is enough interest in this i could continue the work, i probably personally wouldn't use it so it would have to be something that a few people require, i dont really want to get into the position of creating a new docker image for a single person, too much work for very little use, maybe i should create a poll or something and ask people what they would like most.

I use DelugeVPN and do not have this issue at all when i reboot the server

  15. Perfect, thanks.

Binhex- Considering moving from 6.0 to 6.1. Will the dockers work seamlessly with the upgrade?

    In a word, yes

I have needo/plex that I have been using for a very long time. Do you have suggestions on how I can migrate that library and settings to binhex/arch-plexpass (I have a paid acct)? The last time I tried copying over, the libraries/sync status were not imported. I am guessing it is either renaming a particular directory or expecting specific naming conventions. I can copy over the directory naming from needo/plex if it would help. TIA!

  16. Wow, dual parity is big!! This should be v7 equivalent and not a puny .x release :)

I am intrigued by what this can achieve .. will this provide data recovery for any two disks failing (2x data, data+parity or 2x parity)? How will the read/write speeds be affected?

    ..

What's coming in 6.2?  After 6.1 'stable' is released, the next significant feature for 6.2 will be double-parity protection using Reed-Solomon algorithm for second "parity" disk (a.k.a., "P+Q").  We plan on a brief closed beta and then a (hopefully) brief public beta.  This will be a true beta, meaning use on test server because data could be at risk - though not really because I always write bug-free code  ::)  More on this later....

  17. Binhex - is it possible to run the sabnzbdvpn as a specified used instead of nobody? I access my shares only on a secure mode with a specified username and password. Files created by nobody are only readable and not writable. For eg deleting incorrect or multiple  TV shows is not possible through my HTPC. I have to login to my unraid and change user to my specified one before I can delete files remotely.

  18. For folks who haven't kept up with the betas and rc's lately, we could just up the version number to 7 and they would just as be happy while looking forward to version 8 :)

I dunno Gary, I think that's overstated.  Most people presently using unraid are already tech-savvy, especially if they got to point of installing v5 plugins.  There will be exceptions to prove the rule, but I'm thinking most people, while possibly irritated, won't find it too difficult to convert.  For those who don't read anything, boot up, and say, "wtf happened to all my plugins?", the plugin will allow them to 'undo' the upgrade and go back to v5.

So when do you think you will have the plugin released, I assume before unRAID 7 that you just announced right :)
