I currently have an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro, and just found out tonight that it only supports 11 drives. Well, 12, really, but it counts the unRAID flash drive as one of the 12 drives, so *really* only 11 drives. Can anyone recommend a replacement board that will support more than 11 drives?
-
My motherboard is an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro. 8 onboard SATA are all filled, and I have a 4-port Promise PCI card. If I fill all 4 SATA ports on the PCI card, my USB drive no longer shows up as a boot option in the BIOS. The only way I can boot off USB again is to unplug ANY of the drives, it doesn't matter which one. In the BIOS, USB is configured to boot as a hard disk (tried booting with other options, unRAID would not load as anything else, CD rom/Floppy/Forced FDD). If I have all 12 drives plugged in, the USB does not show up as a bootable device in the BIOS. If I unplug any of the drives, it shows up again. Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue, or with this board in particular?

I did this exact thing not that long ago. Be default, my motherboard came with IDE enabled. I switched it over to AHCI, and unRAID loaded without a hitch. Write speeds to the cache drive went up as well.

It sounds to me like what happened was brian purchased a new Sony Pro USB, then copied the files from his new USB to his existing basic USB. If that is the case, brian, the key is specific to the USB that you purchased, and will not work on any other USB drive.

I have an issue where a blank VM is showing up in the settings page (see attachment). I think what happened was I manually deleted the VM folder from its disk location, not using phpvirtualbox. The VM doesn't show up in phpvirtualbox, however. I'm sure it's something simple like deleting a setting or config file somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it...
Please post the output of:
VBoxManage list vms
Here it is:
root@Saidin:~# VBoxManage list vms "<inaccessible>" {7640ff16-f7ea-46a1-900e-527a2bd11992} "SaidinW7VM" {e7894331-f286-4fe4-b803-f41e060d01f1}

Which drives is this?
It's my cache drive.
You have a relocated sector, you may want to keep an eye on that drive.
I have a handful of spare drives laying around. I plan on replacing it when I get home.

Currently I'm finishing a parity check. I figured with all the rebooting I've been doing lately, should probably run one. How do I check the health status? The only way I know is to use unmenu, but I'm in safe mode at the moment.
Apparently unmenu is still available when booted in safe mode. Smart attributes:

I believe you need to limit RAM to 4095 (this was explained in another thread), or use the built-in safe mode at unRAID boot....then test again.
I rebooted in unraid safe mode and limited ram to 4095. Write speeds on average are 6mpbs, peaking at 10.
I also re-tested with all my plugins enabled and no memory restriction (running at 4096, as I have one 4GB stick installed) and my copy averages about 30mpbs, fluctuating from 15 up to 50.
So it's not very consistent, but it's a lot faster. My normal syslog is too big to be attached, so I've put up links to each syslog in my dropbox folder.

Nothing wrong in the syslogs. How full is your target disk? This is not an -rc16c issue.
The disk has 641.69 GB free space, and the share I'm writing to only exists on that disk. The cache drive has 270.7 GB free as well.
whats the health status of your cache disk?

I upgraded to RC16c not too long ago, and let it run. Its been running fine for a handful of days, but today when I tried to copy the new Firefall Beta installer to my array, transfer speeds were abysmally slow (maxing out at 10mbps, attached screenshot shows 4mbps). Read speeds are fine, right around 40. I had put in some custom settings for md_num_stripes, md_write_limit, and md_sync_window (just randomly picked some numbers but made sure that num_stripes was equal to write_limit + sync_window), but I reset those to default, renamed all my plugin folders, and rebooted. I'm running stock unraid rc16c (except for unmenu and I forgot to rename my "extra" folder so I have Plex). Any ideas? Syslog attached.
How were file transfers when you first booted RC16c were they good and then went slow after 3 days?? If so just booting up with that mem option may not mean anything as it would be the same as just rebooting you system. Also did you just use the stock menu mem boot option or did you modify it??
Sorry, I should have been more clear. RC16C started up fine, all my plugins worked, and I could copy/stream files with no problems. I didn't notice the slow speed issue because I didn't have anything to copy to my server until my first post.
Dropped to 4096 MB RAM, speeds went way up. Thanks for the advice.
Please repeat experiment on completely stock install.
I reverted to stock install with 4096MB ram, speed topped out at 4mbps, and constantly fluctuated from 1mbps up to 4, and frequently dropped to 0. If you want me to try stock with my original 8192MB ram, I'll have to wait until I get home tonight after work.

Yeah. You've got crapload of memory there. Try booting with less than 4095MB of RAM, and then let's see if you'll have a problem.

If you read the release notes there is now a safe boot mode you can select on boot or by having a file on you flash drive so u don't need to rename everyting
I knew there was a safe boot mode, but I was at work and my server runs headless anyway, so I couldn't specify that option at boot. I'll have a look at the release notes to find the file you mentioned. Thanks!

Will do. However, I did copy approximately 100GB yesterday evening, and manually invoked the mover, and all of it transferred successfully, no locking up... strange. I'll post again if it locks up.

I'm on RC-15a. I'm sure it's hardware related, but I'm not sure what the issue is. I can't provide a syslog, as the entire server locks up: no webgui, no unmenu, can't ping, even the console is locked up. Only way to get connectivity back is by rebooting the server. I had tried to create an entry in the crontab to copy out the syslog every x minutes, but apparently I didn't write the entry correctly. How can I automate the backup of the syslog? Does anyone have any ideas why my server could be locking up?

It is now up and running! Apparently something (either this dropbox plg or another plugin) had downloaded a bad copy of python-2.6.6.i486-1.txz. I deleted all the files you mentioned in your previous post along with the python package and rebooted the server. Once it came back up, your plugin downloaded dropbox and python and everything installed correctly. Thank you very much for your troubleshooting help! Great job on the plugin
-
OK, I removed files as you specified, rebooted my server, and saw that everything is reinstalled. I double checked the /flash/config/plugins/dropbox, /usr/local/sbin and /usr/local/dropbox locations, and saw all the files you mentioned. Everything was there as described.
I ran
/etc/rc.d/rc.dropbox status
and it returned the same thing as before: No such file or directory. I browsed to /usr/local/sbin/ and verified that there is indeed a dropbox.py file (screenshot attached)
-
Sorry, I mistyped what it returned. After I ran
/etc/rc/d/rc.dropbox status
as you suggested, it returned
sudo: unable to execute /usr/local/sbin/dropbox.py: No such file or directory
which makes me think it didn't install correctly.
-
It appears it did not install correctly. It returned:
sudo: unable to execute /user/local/sbin/dropbox.py: No such file or directory
It seems I need to delete everything and reinstall the plugin. I'm not familiar enough with linux to know what all I need to delete vs what I could leave behind. I think I need to delete /boot/config/plugins/dropbox directory, but not sure what else.
-
I've restarted multiple times. There is a "status" section with a lightbulb icon that I assume lights up when everything is running, but it's not lit up. I change the Enable Dropbox Service from Yes to No, hit apply, and it tells me the service stops. I change back from No to Yes and apply, and it tells me the service starts back up, but still no link.
-
I've installed this new plugin, and everything goes well (no errors or anything). I can see the dropbox link under Settings on the unRAID web GUI just fine. Under configuration, I have the database set to /mnt/cache/.dropbox and the data set to /mnt cache/Dropbox. I enabled the drobox service, and I got two notifications: "starting dropbox service..." and "...OK." However, I do not get the URL to link it to my dropbox account. Everything appears to be working, except for actually linking it to my account. Any ideas?
Motherboard recommendations to support >11 drives?

I have a core i3 installed. It was my old gaming machine from a few years back, and it was just laying around taking up space, so I figured I might as well put it to use.
